I am having some serious pains in my elbows. It's a result mostly of triceps, close grip bench and dips, when ever my elbow joint is compressed is what brings it on, and then everything else just agrivates it, all the doc says is to stop lifting heavy, but as we all know that isn't going to happen so I'm turning to my felllow plate heads for suggestions, thaks bros. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Try 200-400mg of Decca per week, it helps with almost all joint pain by lubricating the joints. It will take a few weeks to kick in, just be patient. IP: Logged |

Rocko... You will have to change something or plan on living with this forever. The doctor is almost right. Except you don't need to stop. You must work around this by changing angle and grip. Also you must avoid all movements that causes this pain. This is serious you must heal and recover. This may take two month depending how bad it is, it could be longer. Then start light for a while. Take it easy and listen to your body. Good luck. Let me know your progress. ------------------ [This message has been edited by morereps (edited June 29, 2000).] IP: Logged |

One thing you could try is starting with a high dose of Alleve for a few days and then taking the above average dosages to maintain. I once had extreme shoulder pain from my joints being inflamed so bad. The doctor told me to take a really high dose of the naproxsyn sodium (Alleve) take about 8 a day for 3-4 days. Then take about 3-4 a day to maintain. The reasoning behind taking a high dosage in the beginning is because in order for an anti-inflammatory drug to work you must bring down the inflammation first, this is best done by taking high doses for a few days. If you take the normal dosage it can take about 2 weeks for it to work. You must take it everyday to maintain the benefits. The bad part is high doses of NSAIDS (non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs)-such as Alleve or Motrin can cause stomach discomfort and ulcers if taken over long periods of time. I lived on Alleve for 6 months and if I missed a day I could really feel the pain flare up. It enabled me to continue training hard without the unbearable discomfort. I'm not recommending this strategy, I'm just mentioning that it is one thing that may work for you if your stomach can handle the high doses. IP: Logged |

I said this before and do it again: tape just below your elbows is needed. forget the excercises you mentionned. do lying french curls BUT with 2 dumbells and your tumbs should be pointed at you (your shoulders). This works all 3 heads but the stress will be on the middle tri. Do not do this sitting or standing. When lying you can go over your head (as cheating a little), so your elbows will not be fully stressed as when doing this sitting. And this is a great triceps excercice. Do lying French curls with a straight bar but REVERSED. So the outside tri gets it, meanwhile saving your inner tri, the one that is giving you a bad time. Jeff ------------------ IP: Logged |

Listen to what morereps said, also ice is essential with joint pain, I cannot stress ice enough, if you are going to use heat make sure it is liquid heat(tub, shower). Also you might want to invest in a TENS unit, this is electrostimulation that helps the healing process. Good Luck. IP: Logged |

Hey bro, I am suffering from the same thing in my right elbow...... I posted about it like a week ago and some of the other bros told me to lay off the heavy weights, massage it alot, and to use ice on it. I hit the weights medium heavy yesterday and it irritated the hell out of my elbow and now its a little worse. I think my dumbass will heed the advice of the bros a little more closely from now on and you probably should too. IP: Logged |

I would NOT use heat, you must keep it cold, with heat blood comes to it, and this must be avoided. Cold, cold, cold is the way to go. Jeff ------------------ IP: Logged |

Cold is right. That's what will reduce inflammation to the tissue. When I was taking the high doses of alleve I would ice my shoulders after the workout and that would also keep them from flaring up. IP: Logged |

Use ice and prescription ibuprofen. Forget the alleve and just go for 800mg prescription ibuprofen...any doctor should prescribe and with healh insurance, its a steal. IP: Logged |

I used to get the 800mg Ibuprofens in the military and it worked but when I got out I didn't have health insurance so I would load up on generic alleve. I have used both and personally I have found the naproxsyn sodium to be more effective for me. Everyone's different though. It worked wonders though. Eventually my shoulders healed up and I never had a problem again. IP: Logged |

Glucosamine Sulfate: 1500 mg x 2 per day. --or-- Glucosimine Sulfate/Chondritin: 1500 mg ea. x 2 per day It takes a month to get on board, but works wonders. (As long as you don't permanently damage your elbows in the meantime) IP: Logged |

I have problems with knees and shoulders every so often. I usually hit anti-inflammitory pills such as Advil. I also hit the flax seed oil harder by adding an extra tablespoon a day. Once I notice joint pain starting I cut back 10% on the weight I am using so I do not screw that joint anymore. If this works I stay at that weight until joint feel better. If not, I will try dropping back another 10% until I find a weight I can use that will not hurt but I can still do some lifting. If all else fails, complete rest. Oh yeah, ice those joints after each workout. These steps are what have worked for me. ------------------ IP: Logged |
