Hey Bro's. This is for some of the newbie's and maybe some vets too. When you are working you chest you should never start with a exercise like bench press of incline bench(Dumbells included) because you tend to work your shoulders and triceps making them fatigue instead of your chest reaching it's full fatigueness. So in order to reach this point start out with a warm-up of incline pec-dec 20 reps for 2 sets and then go straight into incline or flat flyes. This way you will start with an exercise that will isolate the chest only and not work the shoulders and the tri's, then go into smith machine presses again the stability of the bar will help maintain the pressure on the chest instead of the shoulder and the tri's(as you would have to do to balance the bar using the regular incline presses). after this your chest should be pump right up and if you are a believer in thinking that you muscle have minds of there own then you will believe that then at this point your chest knows that it is being work and you can go into all other chest exercises with out working your shoulder and tri's as much. Believe it or not, it is possible to post a disagreement without being an outright ass about it. What Kry says does make some sense, whether it holds true in practice is a different matter. I've often noticed that my tris seem to tire before my pecs when benching, so it might be worth it to try Kry's method for a workout or two. This is definitely something to consider. It is probably going to benefit someone looking for quality muscle and definition more so than someone looking for sheer mass. By doing smaller, isolation type movements first, you will not be able to handle as much weight when you get to the larger multijoint exercies, therefore, you may not recruit as many muscle fibers. However, this method can be very beneficial for someone looking to really define and pre-fatigue there muscles. It can also be used to shock the muscles. These kind of techniques are very good to use when you are looking to burst out of a plateau or sticking point in your training. IP: Logged |

this is only my opinion and take it for what it is worth. i will have to disagree. i've tried doing isolation exercises before heavy compound movement and i find that it takes alot out of you, or that particular muscle. so that when you do the heavy compound movements, it will recruit more of the stabilizer muscles to compensate. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Forever Blast...please shut up next time you think of speaking like that. I agree that it would work good for cutting but for developing over all power in the chest the bench and incline are by far the best. Maybe if you switched back and forth it would really be beneficial--just to switch things up and shock the system. My tri's have always been my strong suit so my chest fatigues before my tri's. Once I get it past the midway point it's there. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I have actually tried this before (its not new), it's Papa Joes "pre-exhaustion" principle and ; for me ; it just don't get it done. There is no way around the heavy weight it takes to GROW!! If you you can't use maximal poundages growth will be slow at best. "feeling the burn" is the next day when you can't walk from squats, deads, and donkey calfs BABAY!! ------------------ IP: Logged |

its not a matter of one way being correct and the other bein wrong.....it may work well for some people and not work at all for others. ------------------ IP: Logged |
