I take 10 mg of Valium every day also...but I think the important thing is when you take it......I take it 30 minutes before bedtime..because I suffer from insomnia and it helps decrease muscle spasms from work outs....My Dr. tells me it is out of my body ususally in 4-6 hours ...so when I wake up..I don't feel like shit..like on xanax or ativan....
I have a friend who takes it for "ROID RAGE" if there is such a clinical problem (which I believe there is)......and it helps calm him down..............
If the Valium becomes less effective...and you build a tolerance....another good drug I have taken is Tegretol (anit-seizure) but you do have to have blood levels drawed every two weeks with it (has a therapeutic level)...I stopped taking it due to it decreasing my oral contraceptives 70 percent....That is all I need!!LOLOLOL..

The biggest problem will be when/if you decide to stop using it. You will be lucky if your only problem is insomnia. Withdrawal from Benzo's is extremely bad. Try not to use them that much. 10mg a few times a week isn't bad.

while on high doses of prednisone for colon inflammation i was prescribed 10mg valium to help me sleep for several months. worked wonders for a while, but then i had to be moved up to .5mg xanax and higher to help me sleep. then i started taking it during the mid afternoon to help with agitation and irritation from prednisone (sorta like roid rage). after 4-6 months (cant really remember exactly) i quit suddenly and had 3-4 weeks of the most hellish withdrawals i have ever experienced.

best advice to you would be to take it every OTHER night or every other day, so as not to build up a strong physical addiction to it. and watch yourself, it can get ya.

Hmmmmm. The half-life of Valium is anywhere from 25 to 71 hours so I wouldn't go back to Pandora's doc in a hurry! This means it doesn't really matter what time of day you take it, or even if you skip a day you're basically 'on' all the time. If you can handle the stuff without it affecting your training intensity then go ahead. But it IS a muscle relaxant.......

Okay...back to the first question.....why do you take it, Chino.......sorry I didn't ask this in the first place....and it is true the half life is 20-70 hours.....highy metabolized in the liver...so if you do oral steroids..you're liver is working a little more harder.......My insomnia comes from being Manic........and I've been on a list of medications that could go on forever and never found a cure.....I now do Yoga, swim, and take Prozac.( lithium , topomax, etc does not work for me)..but when I'm in my upswings ...Valium in the only thing that soothes me........I'm sure you don't have my problem ...but I don't wake up with a hangover like from other meds I have taken.....I have an excellent Dr. I consult at Harvard and one at Vanderbilt in TN.....so I suppose it depends on why you are even taking valium...and sorry to compare you to me.......and I would never intially mis lead anyone about the half life of a drug....I'm in the medical profession myself...........this is from my own experience.....you should check with your Dr.

Appreciate it Mad Scienctist for calling my attention to it.......he and I take Valium for two different reasons I'm sure.....

Man I can vouch for Remedy's comment, I had the same problem. Got predisone, Makes you feel like youv'e just had 12 cups of coffee chased with a little nodoze. My doc gave me a 30 day supply of restoril. When I came off the restoril, I had the cold sweats, shakes, and sleeplessness for about 3 days. Im sure valium would be the same if you used it for much more than a couple of weeks.

people, when coming of benzo's, you MUST taper down...ex. 10 mg valium q day for 30 days or longer....cut to 5 mg q day for 2 weeks...cut to 5 mg qod for 1 week...then 5 mg q 3 days for 1 week. This will eliminate any withdrawls that are COMMONLY seen with abrupt cessation of benzos. Which could possibly be life threatening. Anyone experiencing benzo withdrawl knows what i am talking about.

PS. All benzos work relatively the same except for a few pharmacodynamic effects, but in general should be considered as one.

V's had me in a cloud while on them and quite awhile after. Ironic that I started taking because of insomnia and later they were the cause of my insomnia. Now that I am off for 2 months, I sleep and am more calm than when taking them. The morale of my post is try not to abuse them, cause they abused me.
