![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There is no home kit for cholesterol that I know of. I do that testing for HDL ("bad") cholesterol is not a simple process. After the serum is separated from the rest of the blood consistuents, a chemical reaction is created so the LDL ("good") cholesterol can be removed from the serum, leaving only the HDL to be tested. It's not a process that can be effeciently reproduced at home. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() There are some 5 minute home test kits for cholesterol. You place about 3 drops of blood from a pricked finger on it and wait 5 minutes. Then there is a strip of specially impregnated paper that changes color based on the total cholesterol. As already mentioned it is hard to distinguish good and bad cholesterol - so the home test kits are for total cholesterol only. I have purchased ome before from the Key Company at 1-800-325-9592. But I think you have to buy like 50 at once. They also have strips for urine (10 parameters like glucose, bilirubin, ketones etc) and some for strep throat. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I just checked with Key Company and they do have the test kits but they are buttrageously expensive. you will be able to do hundreds of tests but it will cost you over $200. Try this instead. Biosafe at 1-800-200-TEST has kits. I had forgotten about them - but they have test kits that will not only tell you what your total cholesterol is but also your HDL (good cholesterol)fraction. These are their kits and prices last time I checked : IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() GYMRAT, You have them mixed up. the HDL or high density Lipoproteins are the good cholestorol and the LDL or Low Density Lipoproteins is the bad cholestorol. Had mine tested about 5 months ago so I know what I'm talking about. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() The way my instructor told me to remember is that the "H" in HDL stood for either healthy or heavenly and the "L" in LDL stood for lousy or lucifer. IP: Logged |
