![]() ![]() ![]() Ok, i have MANY questions, an answer to any/all of them will be appreciated =). I'm not an early bird, i go to sleep usually around 3 am and wake up at around noon. I haven't been eating b4 i go to the gym because i read somewhere that with no food cardio training will burn more fat. My routine goes as follows: day 1- Chest, tri's, 20 mins cardio I'm on a high protien, low fat and carb diet. I like training like muscle groups, i find i make better gains. I'm not the most solid guy, my bf % is kinda high so i'm training for cut. (high reps, low weights) I'm also doing 50 mg's of winny ED mon-fri, and 300 mg's of primo weekly. I just finished my bulking cycle of sus 750 mg's weekly about 3 weeks ago. Is it bad to train like this without eating in the morning? Am i over doing the cardio, and can it have negative results? When i'm on the cardio machines i read, where my heart rate should be, it says 120-140 = fat burn, 140-170 = cardio. I'm wondering if that lower heart rate will burn more fat??? It seems to me that with the higher heart rate = higher intensity = higher fat burn? Thanx for any info guys. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You are not doing too much cardio if you are trying to lean up without sacrificing muscle. Don't worry about all those numbers on the machines you are using. If you can hold a conversation while you are doing cardio you are working out with enough intensity to burn fat, just continue to walk, jog or whatever you do. If you can't hold a conversation while you are jogging then you are going to fast and you will expire before your fat burning kicks in. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Well put mightydog! Bravo!! Good to see that some people have some good advice on subjects most don't care to realize. It's called "Percieved Exertion" Like you said, if you can't speak comfortably enough without panting like a dog when you do, then you're not doing it right. The beginning of a cardio workout for at least the first 6 minutes is an-aerobic. Meaning your body is gearing up to burn the fat. After the first 6 min you should be into aerobic activity / Fat burning process. If your heart rate goes above 80 to 85 percent to max heart rate, then you will have returned back to the an-aerobic state and fat loss does not happen. Muscle is used instead. If you have a full stomach from eating then your blood supply is meeting your stomachs demands to process and digest the food. This would indicate that it may not be a good idea to eat before a cardio workout since you need the blood flow for that too. However, since aerobics speed up heart rate and blood flow, it might just be the opposite. So all in all it may be a question as to your personal liking, whether to eat before or after a cardio workout. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Rock_Man (edited June 20, 2000).] IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hey bud, this is the scoop. For maximum gains one would want a source of stored carbs to fuel your workout. However, by training on an empty stomach you are killing two birds with one stone. First of all, the amount of GH is proportionally higher in the morning, thus allowing for better muscular gains and secondly, the depleted carb sources lend themselves to higher utilization of fat for energy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() seeing as how you are doing the correct thing, you are lifting first. I would eat something maybe have a protien carb drink,30 grams of protien 40 grams or so of carbs, that is just 280 calories , enough to fuel you through your weight workout, you will have lowered your blood sugarlevels by then and be ready to hop on to the cradio work IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I agree with whats been said. I try to split up my cardio and lift days up so I dont do both on the same day. Or, you might try doing cardio in the mornings and lift in the evenings if your schedule permits. On the intensity issue, you guys are right on. When I do my 30 minutes of cardio, I work my ass off (literally). If I find my cardio getting easy, I bump up the intensity, speed, or incline on the machine Im on. So many times I see these fat, dumb, fuckers doing there 5 minutes of cardio while reading the Wall Street Journal or worse, a Daniel Steele novel. What a joke. At that rate, they will be doing cardio for the next 20 years and maybe lose a pound ![]() IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() hey indy this is not a flame but did you read the posts. the consensus was that lower intensity aerobics was the answer so do you agree or disagree? the intensity should come from the weight training as this is when you will burn the most calories anyway. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() no, i don't really train my legs that often. I played hockey for 12 years and have never had a problem with my legs. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Don't neglect your legs. Throw in high rep squats on Day 6, your whole body will benefit from them. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I used to beleive that moderate to low intensity cardio for a longer period of time was the best way to burn fat. It is true that your body will use the majority of it's energy from fat after approx. 15 min with lower intensity cardio. It is now my belief that it is the total energy expenditure that is more important than the type of fuel used when excercising. To simplify what I'm trying to say is this: Work harder for a shorter period of time when doing cardio. Short bursts of sprinting type movements alternating with a moderated pace for no more than 20-25 min per session. I have now converted to this style with great success! IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I agree with Phreaky. short bursts of higher intensity burn off fat better for me. When I bike or jog at an even pace I don't feel shit afterwards. breathing returns to normal very quickly and not much sweat. On the treadmill or on the track running sprints works much better for me at losing fat. try this: warm up 2 laps 3 100 yard sprints 60 sec rest in between 6 50 yard sprints 45 sec rest 6 25 yard sprints 45 sec rest 3 50 yard sprints 45 sec rest 2 100 yard sprints 60 sec rest It looks easy but it should take you about 30-40 minutes. remember how you feel afterwards. two day later go to the gym and do 45 min on the bike at low intensity and decide for yourself which one does better for you. Maybe for some people the easy one burns more fat, but for me, I like the sprints. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() If you have a substantial amount of fat to lose, I still believe that intense cardio for no more than 30 minutes 3 times per week will do the job for losing fat. Yes, building the muscle will burn fat as well, but the cardio will help take it down faster. Then concentrate on building the mass to stay lean and cut. Believe me, the cardio shit is right...I lost 112lbs and went from 278lbs to 166. No starvation either, cut out fast food crap... 6 small meals a day and worked my ass off doing cardio but also lifting three days a week. IP: Logged |
