DAMMIT!!!!every fatass I've ever worked out with in ANY gym is always saying they're a powerlifter. WTF? after they get done lifting, just to prove a point, i'll usually go over there and maybe hit a little of their weight plus a 10 on each side just to take their liscence-to-be-fat away from them...anybody else out there share these sentiments? Marauder out.

Heh heh, Ive noticed that, too. But even the not-so-fat guys that powerlift have that bulging "power gut". Like overdeveloped abs that stick way out... its pretty creepy looking.
A lot of the time I think its an excuse so they dont have to discipline themselves into dieting. They can justify it by saying "I need the fat because Im a powerlifter". "You need the fat for big lifts" or some shit like that...

If you want to see something funny, ask them if they want to do some pullups or dips with you. Most of the ones in my gym can't bench their weight. I like the idea of going over to them and warming up with their max.

A typical fat fuck finds it to challenging to get off their never ending "bulk up" phase. Getting ripped to them is like getting their gut small enough to where they can see their own dick.

Most powerlifters end up getting fat from eating a real lot, not doing cardio (to avoid losing muscle and strength) and basically always trying to put on muscle and strength rather than cut up. True alot were fat before they started, but all that extra fat helps them with there strength and energy for short bursts, or so I'm told.

most all of the elite powerlifters are not fat, and are in pretty good shape. Kaz redefined even how superheavy's should look. Check out the good ones and you'll see how impressive their phsyiques are: Eddy, Kirk( before he got done) Wade H, Dave Ricks etc...Most bodybuilders I know can't lift enough weight to beat a 148 pounder.... Trapper John has a point the powerlifters in my gym are really strong. Not much bodybuilders can hold their own against them.

This guy called Hugo Girard trains there. He is 6'2" and weighs 340lbs. Yeah he is soft but Goddamn he is strong.

I have personnally seen him bench 495lbs for 5 reps.

He has squatted 8 plates for 2-3 reps.

He competed at the world strongest man last year and finished 4th. Check it out at ironmind.com

Some Powerlifters at my gym do bent-over rows with 365lbs. I have never seen any bodybuilders at my gym go over about 275lbs with good form.

Being a powerlifter is no excuse to be fat and I think they should draw the line at 15% bodyfat.

Even then I find that at 12% I am as strong as any more bodyfat will make me.

There is one good powerlifter that works out at my gym. Some of you may have heard of him, he was in the worlds strongest man last year. Didn't place good because of injury, said he hurt his wrist doing some event. His names Steve Bell, he probably weights around 310 im guessing. I've seen him bench press over 500lbs but never really seen him do a one rep max.

These "strong men" are incredible.

This guy Hugo Girard asked me and my training partner how many reps did we want him to do with 100lbs dumbells for seated shoulder presses.

We said 15reps...he did 30 reps...with 100 pounders in each hand.. I can do maybe 2 on a good day...

If youre an actual "powerlifter", then sure, have the powergut and hold some fat for the strength purposes... but these guys in the gym who say theyre powerlifters are just useing it as an excuse.
They DONT compete, they DONT have aspirations to compete, they DONT do anything a powerlifter does except the lifts (bench, dead, squat). They are using it as a crutch to not have to diet.
If you arent competing and youre busting your ass in the gym, and when youre walking through the mall you just look like a big fat ass, whats the point????? Not only cant they take their shirts off (for fear of people projectile vomiting), but they cant even wear a sleeveless shirt because their arms are so fucking FLABBY!
"Hey, I got a 600lb bench, and a 2000lb total!"
Hmmm, great. I got a 350lb bench and I can see my dick when I piss. Who won?
I dont mean to rag on anyone, but if you arent competing, you arent a powerlifter. But if you arent competing as a bodybuilder, youre still a bodybuilder. Your still going in there to accomplish something with a purpose to it. We want to look good! (you can keep the "Health" lies, you know we're ALL vain)
So I'll see ya later... Im gonna go hang out with a few women, you and your "powerlifting" buddies can go ahead over to the Big and Tall and shop for some of those size 44 waist "powerlifting" pants.

To be a powerlifter or bodybulder takes plenty of desire and discipline, something that 95 percent of the population does not have... That includes most of the people that weighttrain, people without drive are neither pl'ers or bb'ers, they are just taking up gym space......

These average non-athletic weightlifters who have the fat problem all associate themselves with powerlifting. Its simple, the gym is about beauty, the eye, appriciating dedication through physical accomplishment. They certainly cant be bodybuilders, no dedication to diet. They think their beyond the simple average "weight lifter", so whats left. Ohh ya im a powerlifter.

Personally, I would rather look like I could bench 300 then look like a slob benching 395. You dont get complements by the opposite sex, your peers, or the stranger on the street because you bench 500lbs. If you look it though, wow the world is at your finger tips.

I'm all for letting the fat boys have their fantasies. at least they pay their membership fees which help keep the gym going. Gives us something to laugh at, too. But if you want to imprees THIS chick as a powerlifter, then enter a competition with a weight restriction. Now THAT'S impressive. Guys and gals that have dieted AND are incredibly strong for their weight.

One powerlifter in my gym never will go light, heavy all the time. He plateaus so often and even goes down in strength because he doesn't have the mentality of giving it a rest to recuperate from the heavy shit.

The guys who say they would rather "look" like they bench 400 then be able to really bench 400 were obviously never athletes, and only want to work out in order to show off. I have lifted weights since age 13 for athletics, I do deadlifts, power cleans, push presses, squats, and all the other lifts people hate. I am 5'11" 235 lbs and about 11-12% bodyfat, I'm not contest ripped, but I certainly don't have a gut. My opinion is that most guys only want to do beach workouts...they are in the gym 6 days a week, and all they work is bis and chest sometimes shoulders, mostly on machines. The fat guys say they're power lifters and the skinny guys call themselves bodybuilders, the truth is that none of them know the first thing about building muscles that function athletically, they follow progams in a muscle mag that the bozo in the pics supposedly does, thinking they will transform themselves overnight. They have no idea how to have a healthy, strong body that enhences their athletic performance while looking good at the same time.

I agree to an extent, but I have to be honest (and I think a lot will agree), Im in it for appearance over athletic preformance. I train my entire body, from calves to neck to forearms. But in the end what matters is how I look! If the guy next to me moves more weight than me, I couldnt care less.
As far as training goes, Im with you BigT! In the entire gym I go to (and its not a wussy social club gym), I dont think Ive ever seen anyone but ME doing barbell rows. BARBELL ROWS!!! GOD DAMN!!! If you arent doing barbell rows, what are you doing for your back??? It would be like ONLY doing cable crossovers for chest and never benching. Most of these guys wear sweat pants or running pants no matter how disgustingly hot it is in there, and when they walk around you see why. They have little chicken legs. If anything, they may do a few leg pressess, but youll never see them even look at a squat...
uuhhhgggg, Im tiring myself out with all this anger...

A lot of the fat guys at my gym are just fat, and they do not claim to be anything other than fat people trying to look better. There are a few, however, who are real powerlifters. I've asked one of them why they do not diet or do cardio. He said that he's afraid of losing muscle that way. He'd rather live with the fat and assurance that he's keeping all his muscle.

I've not yet seen a fat powerlifter who has truly flabby arms, though. They might have a fair layer of fat covering them, but they can sure lift.

What gets me is those skinny guys that call themselves bodybuilders. They run around in their tank tops showing off their 14 inch arms and bragging about how much they can curl. All I can say is 'balls to them'. Get off my squat rack and do your curling in the women's weights section.

What really pisses me off.. well first of all, don't think im no expert. I've been lifting for about a year now (not long) but I have come a LONG way from where I was. But anyways as I was saying.. what pisses me off is these high school kids that come in the gym where i work out, and its either bi's or chest EVERYDAY!!!!!! And the funny thing is, their biceps aren't getting any bigger and they just can't understand why. Oh sure, they look big whenever they get done working them out.. but seriously these guys aren't on gear, and they work biceps 3 days a week, sometimes 3 consecutive days. Sometimes they'll even work chest or shoulders 2-3 consecutive days. I was laughing my ass off at a group of them tonight... This guy walks around with his chest stuck out like he's huge..walked over to the flat bench, had his buddies put 225lbs on it.. I was doing some dips and couldn't help but stare as his 2 buddies were struggling to lift it off of him. These people don't understand what lifting is about. They want to look good in the gym by piling a shitload of weight on something and doing it as many times as they can, completely out of form. Personally, i'd rather put less weight on a bar and do it 6-8 reps and get a realllllly nice burn then pile a shitload of weight on something and do it once using terrible form. but hey, what do i know?

Spunky,
Go say something to them. when i was 14 i was doin the same thing in the summer. i thought the more i work them the bigger they'll get. one day a trainer who had probably been laughing at me came and told me what i really needed to do. i had my pride hurt but it has payed off now. they wont learn until you tell them, but its not your responsibility just a suggestion.

And i know what yall are talking about with the fat guys. some fat guy who was doing more weight than me when i started always would laugh when i couldnt do like 135 on bench and he could do 225. now that fat ass still does 225 like 4 times and ill go over there do it 10-12 times just to show his ass whos laughing at who now. he had told me he was a powerlifter and this bodybuilder now kicks his ass and looks a hell of alot better.
but i do agree about the real powerlifters who have a bit extra on them and needing it.

Good onya, Bluesy.

I watched the strongest man contest and the winner, Juho Ahola or something like that was big, fairly ripped and bloody powerful. His arms weren't covered with fat and he had some nasty peaks. I don't think that powerlifters have to be fat or anything. I can understand if they lack some definition but I just cannot agree when I see some obviously obese guy with an obvious lack of power try to pass himself off as a powerlifter.

The fat guys calling themselves powerlifters is funny but my favorite are the guys that load the leg press up to the ends of the bar then do a 2 inch range of motion the whole time screaming their heads off like they're really accomplishing something. It's also funny that I never see them squat.

If you do the percentages of weight lifted vs the persons body weight you'll see that most "powerlifters" are not that strong. Sure there are the elite ones in every sport but a fat ass is a fat ass and most are just in denial.
Some of you guys are saying that you see 300+ lb guys benching 500lbs...I say big fuck'n deal!!!! What is really impressive is seeing a guy bench, squat and deadlift double and almost triple his body weight and still see his toes. That is called disipline!!!!! Also, have you seen that most of these so-called powerlifters don't squat or deadlift....All they do is ego bench.
All it comes down to is fucking lazy ethics. I am on my 8th week of a contest diet and still busted a fat ass's bubble when he said he could squat heavy. Sure he could....1/4 squat with 600lbs @ 295lbs of round mound. I took his fat snicker eat'n ass to town with 505 (ass to the heels) squats for sets of 5. Then he has he reminds me he needed to leave the gym early to do some things. I hate fat and lazy people who want the glory without the effort it takes to get there!

I dont mean to rag on anyone, but if you arent competing, you arent a powerlifter. But if you arent competing as a bodybuilder, youre still a bodybuilder. Your still going in there to accomplish something with a purpose to it. We want to look good! (you can keep the "Health" lies, you know we're ALL vain) YEAH WELL SOME OF US POWERLIFTERS THAT STRUGGLE WITH OUR DIETS JUST WANT TO BE STRONG. THAT RIPPED VASCULAR IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. THAT FEELING YOU GET WHEN SOMEONE TELLS YOU HOW GOOD YOU LOOK IS VERY SIMILAR TO WHEN SOMEONE COMES UP TO US AND COMPLEMENTS US ON OUR STRENGTH.

PERSONALLY I THINK THIS TOPIC SUCKS. ITS AN OPEN FORUM FOR ALL OF THE BODY BUILDERS TO RIP ON POWERLIFTERS. AND THE ABOVE STATEMENT IS THE BIGGEST LOAD OF CRAP I HAVE EVER HEARD. JUST BECAUSE YOUR TO CHICKEN SHIT TO WALK OUT ON STAGE AND COMPETE THAT STILL QUALIFIES YOU AS A BODYBUILDER. WELL THEN WHY IS CAN'T PEOPLE THAT DON'T COMPETE IN POWERLIFTING DO THE SAME. ALL OF US THAT GO TO THE GYM HAVE OUR OWN GOALS. WHO ARE ANY OF YOU TO RIP ON SOME GUY THAT CALLS HIMSELF A POWERLIFTER. JUST BECAUSE HE OR SHE CAN'T BENCH 6000 POUNDS. REMEMBER WE ALL HAD TO START SOMEWHERE. I PERSONALLY CAN'T STAND THE SKINNY LITTLE FUCKERS THAT STAND THERE AND ONLY DO BENCH BI'S AND TRI'S AND SAY THEY ARE BODY BUILDING. BUT DO I SAY ANYTHING NO. WHY? BECAUSE ATLEAST THEY ARE TRYING. AND THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. IS DIETING A MOTHER FUCKER ....YEAH. BUT JUST BECAUSE YOU TORCHER YOURSELF WITH A STRICT DIET DOESN'T MAKE YOU A BODYBUILDER EITHER. ACTUALLY WHAT IS THE TRUE DEFINITION OF A BODY BUILDER? DORIAN YATES, NASSAR, MARKUS RULHS. NO.... ANYBODY CAN DO IT. JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T LOOK LIKE THEM OR COMPETE DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOUR NOT A BODYBUILDER. WELL SAME HOLDS TRUE FOR POWERLIFTERS. JUST BECAUSE ONE MAY NOT COMPETE AND GET NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR THEIR TRAINING SHOULDN'T ELIMINATE THAT PERSON FROM BEING CLASSED AS A POWERLIFTER. SO IMO EVERYONE HERE NEEDS TO JUST CALM DOWN A LITTLE.

we already discussed the topic about dumbasses that call themselves bodybuilders...bodybuilding and powerlifting are two different goals that require strict discipline to acheive...if you are on you're way to being a powerlifter and can't bench 500lbs...that's fine, as long as you're being honest with yourself and others...I mean the fatasses that go in the gym so people will see them their and think that they're strong or can whoop ass. i know a guy in particular that if he wasn't a fatass, he would call himself a bodybuilder...there was a guy once on my football team that weighed about 210 and benched 165, "he was a powerlifter"...that was a little overboard, because he only worked out so people would automatically think he was strong...he always walked around all bowed and shit just cause he was a little bigger than others....no dicipline....that's what i meant, so chill...that's why we have a POWERLIFTING FORUM anyway, bro. Marauder out.
