I've used niacin to lower my triglcerides and cholesterol for Accutane blood tests and was wondering if It would cause any problems if I used in a cycle at around 4 grams a day. My grandfather died of a heart attack, and my dad has already had one that left him with one foot in the grave. Also if anyone uses something besides niacin, let me knnow how it works for you. I get the feeling that most guys don't even worry about it, because it tends to return to normal after the cycle is done. Is that true? (about not worring) IP: Logged |

DO NOT continue that. Read my new post on niacin. Take maybe 200 mg day. 4 grams could kill you literally. Discontinue for several days, then begin again at maybe 200 mg day. IP: Logged |

I'm not tryin to flame ya, but the what got me thinking about this was I read niacin is regualry used in hospitals to combat high cholesterol and triglycerides in doseages of up to 6 mg daily. I took that for a period of about 3 weeks, and, no BS, chopped my triglcyrides by 60% (they were way way high due to accutane) I read the post and one person dying from is not statistically signifigant (again no flame intended) I know the time release version is harmful, but other than that and what you posted, I have not heard of any problems, even from megadoses. Waiting to hear of such things is often like waiting to hear what to invest in.....when its common news it is old news. In my post on Niacin I included the references for anyone who wants to read. I would have to admit compared to the medical treatment of disease niacin is way safe, but the research is there - it is liver toxic. And I have personally seen the blood test results on dozens and dozens (maybe hundreds) of people and know it elevates liver enzymes. Niacin does alter liver function for the worse in high doses and must be done carefully. In Europe vitamins in high doses are prescription only items. It is harder to get 1000 mg pills of vitamin C than it is to get decadurobolin. Nutrition is a HOT topic right now. I have recently sat in a restaurant and listened to old gentlemen discuss the benefits of Saw palmetto and glucosamine sulfate. This is good in one way and bad in another. In a bad way many people will read the supplement dujour is good for such and such and take it...eventually taking supplements in a haphazard manner will result in more than one death. Then it could very well end up a legislated product and we will have discussion groups in which people discuss in secret how to smuggle vitamin C up from Mexico. It would also result in a much higher cost for these supplements. If you think it could not happen think again - as I mentioned before Tryptophan was pulled from the market when 1500 people got sick (not dead) from taking CONTAMINATED tryptophan. All the contaminated tryptophan came from one comapny - Shaw Denko in Japan. They knew it was contaminated but sold it anyway. They pulled tryptophan and there was nothing even wrong with it. Did someone say you could get GHB until recently in a health food store but now it is a regulated item? Encouraging someone to take niacin in such high doses will result in a death eventually. I know for a fact it raises liver enzymes in those high doses - I have seen the research and I have seen blood test after blood test after blood test. DO NOT TAKE 6 grams of niacin a day excetp under professional care with the bloodwork being monitored.

if you want to lower triglycerides 500-3000mg of niacin is typical, but it is sustained release so it does not cause flushing. If you take an aspirin an hour before you take the niacin,I'd recommend 500-1000mg.Take it right before you go to bed for the best effect.LDL cholesterol is synthesized at night, niacin reduces the amount of LDL's made,so take a sustained release formula like Niaspann(the RX version).Keep in mind that at high doses it can be liver toxic,ie its not good to take this with oral AS or oral anti-diabetics like glyburide.manana....
