A Frederick County sheriff's deputy Thursday admitted to possession of a steroid during a hearing in Frederick County District Court.

Jason M. McCollum 32, of Hall Road, Frederick was granted probation before judgment by District Court Judge Robert N. Locke, a visiting judge.

Deputy McCollum remains suspended with pay, said Sheriff Jim Hagy.

"I do not have the report on the internal investigation," the sheriff said in a telephone interview hours after the hearing.

Sheriff Hagy said the outcome of the criminal case may not have a bearing on the ongoing probe being conducted by Sgt. david Benjamin, or any sanctions that may result.

The guilty plea was part of an agreement between Howard County Assistant State's Attorney Lynn Marshall and the defense attorney Pat McAndrew.

Ms. Marshall was assigned the case because of a possibility of a conflict of interest in the local states's attorney's office. The trial was set before an out-of-town judge for the same reason.

Court testimony reveled that on Feb. 8, 2000 US Customs seized an Express air mail package from Thailand addressed to Jason McCollum. Inside, agents found 100 individual pink tablets wrapped in foil. They removed two and test showed them to be Stanozolol,an anabolic steroid, which is considered a controlled dangerous substance, according to testimony.

Agents then contacted the Maryland State Police Package Inderdiction Unit to assist with the probe. On Feb 16, 2000 a US Customs Agent delivered the package to the deputy's home, and deputy McCollum signed for it.

Later agents and state police returned to the house armed with a search and seizure warrant and knocked on the door, MS. Marshall said it took deputy McCollum a while to answer the door.

When informed about what they were looking for, he told them: "It's not here anymore," she said.

Also confiscated from the home were a computer and a hand written note with a Thailand addres on it.

Mr. McAndrew told Judge Locke that the 100 tablets were a 28 day supply for personal use.

Did this guy make some F'ing mistakes or what, he should have known better than signing for anything. Not only that but it was in his real name, holy shit !!!

BTW, how does the biggest(literally) hypocrit of all, Ronnie Coleman, get away with it? Him being a cop and all.

Do you think he gets away with it because he's somewhat of a celebrity and others are not. (cop in article for example)

Oh ya, if I was on the same force as Coleman I would want him to resign. He makes the rest of the cops on his force look like idiots. (for knowing he's involved w/roids and doing nothing about it)

I feel sorry for the dude, even if he was careless. I'm sure this case will be spotlighted in the next "Policeman's Watch," or whatever the bloody professional journals are they read. And teletyped across the country to state and local police stations. As a warning to fellow officers.

It sucks, in my opinion.

Everybody says they want legalization, but at the same time your happy that somebody gets busted cuz they're a cop? What kind of sense does that make? If your for legalization, you should be pissed anytime ANYBODY gets busted.

Cops are like any other segment of society, some are assholes, some are cool. All in all, they have one of the worst jobs in the world -- how would you like to deal all day, every day with (for the most part) ignorant, scumbag motherfuckers? Bet you wouldn't. Me neither. Personally, I'd rather have them than not have them. It's the law makers whose ass I'd like to kick sometimes.

Just my opinion. I'll get off my pulpit now.

#2 He is a Weider athlete -- under lock and key, Weider won't admit (or allow any of his athletes to admit) usage of AS in bb.

#3 What's he supposed to do? Admit usage of AS so that (as a cop) he can lose his job, be made an example of (prison) and lose his Weider endorsement? Would you admit under those circumstances? How would that profit you?
