I've been experiencing soreness in my lower back and I wanted to share what I've tried, and see if anyone has suggestions on what to do next. My back problems can be attributed to 2 things:

1. A dramatic increase in strength from my current cycle allows the use of much heavier weight in my back movements, squats, and deadlifts.

2. A rapid increase in body weight has put additional strain on my lower back......I experience tightness and pain just from walking.

I've tried the following things to reduce back pain:

1. I tried using a back belt when squatting, deadlifting, and during any type of rowing movements. This didn't allow my lower back to develop due to decreased load....which resulted in more soreness the more I used the belt.

2. Hyperextensions and goodmornings.....even more pain.

3. I increased my ab work in hope that stronger abs would help carry the load and take tension off the lower back......this didn't work either.

My deadlifts, squats, and back workouts are suffering because of this. My lower back muscles fail before I'm able to exhaust the muscle I'm training. Has anyone else had this experience. If so, what have you done to help this?

I had the exact same problems. 2 weeks ago, I went to see an orthopedic doctor who specializes in backs. He took several x-rays of my back looking for a possible stress fracture. He found no problems. He concluded that the pain and discomfort is due to inflammation of lower back muscles. He put me on a drug called Celebrex which is an anti-inflammatory. He told me to take it easy on the heavy poundages when doing squats and deadlifts, and my pain should gradually go away. It has begun to feel better lately. I recommend that you too go see a doctor. Back problems can be a very serious condition. Hope this helps

You may need to see a doctor and make sure it is not your kidneys causing this problem. I believe you said you are using high doses of winny, and winny is known to be toxic to your liver and kidneys. First get that checked then if that checks out o.k. take a week off, it will make you feel like a new man. If anything you are just overworked.

Not using winny......and there's a hell of a difference between kidney pain and muscular pain in the lower back.

I appreciate the input, but taking a week off is out of the question. Especially during a cycle....it's 12 weeks long and that gives me exactly 12 times to blast each muscle group.

Any other experiences or suggestions?

i have the same problem, every squat day, same thing my lower back gets exhausted and fatiged b4 my exercize is done! cant barley walk after! lying down on the gym floor on my back is the only relief, but then after a day or so its not too bad???? but if i had to bend over , say to pick up 300 pencils off the ground scattered one by one, i would have bad fatigue and pain????
i truly think this is permanent damage due to squatting heavy wt!!!

I strained my lower back wrestling about a year ago, the only thing I found that help was lots of stretching especially my hamstrings. I was told if your hamstring where tight it put strain on your lower back. I did my stretching routine every morning and night the pain went away in about 3 weeks. I am not sure this will help with your type of back problem but it worked great for me, so maybe its worth a try.

Yes SS,
its from your rapid weight gain and it sounds like muscle fatique, as soon as you are finished, do a cutting cycle (lets not start this discussion again) you will feel more comfy, mine was so bad that I couldn't walk to the water fountain w/o leaning on something. In my bulk cycle I gained 30 lbs over 6 weeks, now with my cutting cycle I lost 15 lbs of fat and feel like a mill. $

huh, a solution to that would be to slow your weight gain, or try stretching with hot baths in the eve (or massages)

slow my weight gain.....hehehehehehe.....how cute Why must I be cursed with these damn genetics that are predisposed to muscle growth....hehehehe!!! Thanks for the input bro's. I'm going to try regular stretching, ice packs/hot baths, and massages......well, and laying on the gym floor (I do that too Matty....I feel better knowing I'm not the only one).

I KNOW YOU SAID IT ISNT KIDNEY PAIN, BUT HAVE YOU EVER HAD KIDNEY PAIN BEFORE? I THOUGH MY BACK PAIN WAS JUST MUSCLE PAIN AND WENT TO GET CHECKED OUT AND IT TURNED OUT THAT MY KIDNEYS WERE NEAR FAILURE. NOT FROM A.S BUT OTHER STUFF. THE DOCTORS TOLD ME THAT A.S WILL OFTEN CAUSE KIDNEY PAIN.

I've been blessed with the fine experience of kidney stones.....so I am intimate with the feeling of kidney pain. I am certain the feeling is muscle fatigue in the lower back. I only have this experience on back day and leg day.....it goes away 1-2 days after.

I'm in the tenth day of my first cycle and I'm having some "kidney" pain too. I've had kidney stones twice and recognize the pain. Is there anything to do about it, or just put up with it until the cycle is finished? I'm drinking over a gallon of water/day and also drinking cranberry juice. (didn't mean to cut in on your thread SSMAN)

Delts, my friend, you can jump in on my party thread anytime As for your kidneys, flush them.....just like you're doing. Try to hit 2 gallons of water per day and stay consistent with it and keep us posted.

I have a similar situation. Some of my disc in my lower back are slightly degenerated and about 4 months ago I was doing sumo style deadlifts and I got sloppy on one rep and I had the pain from hell. The deadlift threw it over the top. I started seeing a chiropractor 2 months ago and I have been a lot better since. He is doing E-stim on my back as well as adjustments (cracking) and physical therapy (Hypers, ab crunches). My back still is not 100% but it is better. You never know how valuable your normal state is until you can't get out of bed and can't bend over enough to even put your clothes on. I have heard horror stories about chiropractors in the past but the one I am seeing is a bodybuilder as well and is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet and can understand the pain someone will endure to achieve their goals. See a doctor man. Have X-rays done and maybe an ultrasound of your lower back. Maybe even a nerve test to see if there is a pinched nerve in your lower back. Hope this helps keep us posted.

See a Doctor Bro, I had the same symptoms as you a few years ago and it turned out to be a ruptured disk. I'm not saying thats what you have but you never know. If someone had told me that at the time I would have dismissed it because I was still able to Squat and all. It was a slight tear that kept opening instead of sealing itself. It finally blew out during a heavy set of squats and I dam near killed myself. Ended up having 9 hours of surgery and being out of the gym for about 6 months total. Lesson learned: Never screw with a back problem!!!

Back problems, a serious problem everywhere with just about anyone. The work and production loss has to be in the BILLIONS!
No one can understand it unless they have experienced it. We all want to go to the doctor and have him do something or give us something so we can go to the gym and train again with max. intensity and weight and be able to skip out of the gym. Why is Nubain abused by many pro's? Surgery for some helps for others it makes them worse.
We are not going to give up our passion, so the only thing we can do is manage it. Eliminate certain movements, shoe inserts, cushioned floors, orthopedic mattresses, ibuprofin....... ive had back pain for 15 years and there never isnt a risk of it flaring up. I tried doing bent over rows the other day(havent done them in 7 years) felt
confident that day. Well now im paying for it
having to stretch out every 30 minutes and
having psiatica nerve explosions down both legs. Sorry for the long post, but everyone knows someone with chronic back pain.

Chiropractic and deep (i.e. painful) localized massage may help. They've both worked wonder for me in the past (back and elbow).

SSMAN,

Had the same exact problem don,t worry if it's what I had it will go away on it own if you just stretch, basically it's your lower back adapting to to the rapid weight gain if you've never had lower back problems before I would not worry about it went form 212 to 247 in 5 weeks my lower back felt like it was on fire and I was huffing and puffing like a dog but my body adapted and I'm OK

Marky,
very good post. I think that the best way to avoid back problems is stay flexible and exercise good posture. I wrecked my back, but after doing yoga for a couple months my back began to recover. If I had been doing the yoga on a regular basis an injury probably would have never occured.

Try yoga!

Yoga? Hmm...would i have to change my diet?
Is there reading involved? Special clothes?
I know what your saying. I try to stretch as often as possible but over the years i have gotten about as flexible as todays doctors on AS scripts. I have very little time with a business, but when i can manage it i think
something like Tai Chi or even yoga could help.
