Read the same thing about Platz squatting his bodyweight for 10mins straight it was for like 100reps. He also had a squat off against Dr.Squat Fred Hatfield and Platz did 825lbs and Hatfield beat him with 875lbs. IP: Logged |

I had a chance to speak to Tom last year. At a training seminar. There was a time when he did not count reps for squat. He had a little timer he used. And he just did reps until the timer went off. He was just in a zone. The man is amazing he is an animal. IP: Logged |

fillybag, ever tried to do 20 rep squats, try them and you will find out why high-rep squats will build like a mother, most people puke doing that. We are not talking pussy-weights here, no some serious poundage as well. I do 1/month a session of 10 sets of 20 rep squats. Try this and talk on the board about your experience. In short it will burst the shit out of your growth hormone outout. IP: Logged |

Its Gilbyag Thanx for the tip (I think) I will try it too, and I dont do pussy weights. I go with the theory, if you wanna grow, you ALWAYS gotta go with the most lbs you can. GO HARD OR GO HOME! IP: Logged |

Yep those 20 rep squats will throw some mass on real quick. You gotta understand that 20 reps for almost any other muscle group is gonna be pointless but we're talking legs baby. You're constantly hitting them with your own bodyweight and they're always the most used muscle group. They recover quicker then most muscles and are already used to the high reps just from going about your daily routine. Maybe if we walked around on our hands are whole life we could be seeing great results from 20 rep arm exercises too. Platz is truly a freak when it comes to leg training. The guy does some serious stretching too. I think arnold touches on it in The New Enyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding. I'll see if I can find it in the book and post some more info later. IP: Logged |

I sometimes do 20rep Squats or 20 rep Deadlifts they are damn painfull. What he meant about not using pussy weights is you must go with a weight that will cause you to pause between reps starting at 12reps all the way to 20... I am now doing GVT for the Squats and godamn this is the worst pain I have felt in my legs in the the 6 1/2years I have been training. IP: Logged |

Here's some info about Platz from Arnold's book. STRETCHING "Many bodybuilders feel that this extra effort devoted to fexibility is not necessary, but others, like Tom Platz, rely heavily on stretching to enhance their workouts. When Tom is limbering up for a workout, those gargantuam legs of his twisted like pretzels beneath him, it is almost unbelievable to watch. He spends the first part of his calf workout stretching his calves as far as possible, often using very heavy weights, because he realizes that the more they stretch, the more fiber becomes involved in the contraction." LEGS "Tom Platz had a method of exhausting the endurance capacity of the legs as well as blasting the muscles. When he was doing Leg Extensions, for example, he would do as many full reps as he could. Then, as he began to tire and couldn't do full-range movements anymore, he continued the set, moving the weight just as far as he could--three-quarter reps, half reps, quarter reps. Finally, he ended up lying back on the machine, totally spent, but you could see his legs still contracting, moving the weight only inches at a time. He didn't stop till his quadriceps were so literally exhausted that he couldn't move the weight even a fraction of an inch. This was how he used partial reps, a method in which Tom cut down on the range of motion raather than lightening up on the weight. I copied this directly from The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding. It ran me $25 books and worth every damn penny. Hell of a deal considering it's several books in one and has nearly 800 pages. The book is huge too. I think you could get a decent pump just from toting this thing around. Seriously I recomend this book to anyone that's into weightlifting. It has everything from exercises and examples to posing tips. Plenty of pictures and diagrams but the best part is it reads really good and Arnold shares a lot of stories and background info. This rocks Latimer, Ive never really had to work my legs cuz they are naturally big. But my quads are starting to fall behind a bit. Im gonna start do'n this, after your post on legs and why higher reps could only help your legs grow why would anyone wanna do anything else. Ive never thought about it in this way. I can see them staring already. IP: Logged |

When I do 20 rep squats I am sucking wind big time. How normal is that? Not the first 10 or so, but soon I am sucking several big breaths between reps just to do the next rep. At the end I am almost hanging on the bar after I rack it. I do cardio, but I feel like I can't get enough air at about rep 16. IP: Logged |

Just got done doing legs and I started lifting with a new partner this week. He told me something wasn't right because he felt like he was gonna puke after his first set of squats. I just laughed and told him to get used to it. l8r IP: Logged |
