My right rotator hurts like hell sometimes, usually on chest and shoulder days. I am trying to strengthen them but I think it is a little to late.

Has anybody enountered this and what did you do?

I have that pain too, on chest and shoulder days, in my right shoulder. Pick up two 3 or 5lbs DB and just do circular flys. Keep the diameter of the circles in the flys no more than 10 inches. do this slowly for about 10 min twice a week and that will strengthen your rotator cuffs. There are other exercises for the cuffs also. Stand straight, arms straight out to the sides with the elbows bent at 90degrees. Point the fists ahead then up in a quarter circular motion. You'll be holding 5lbs DBs ofcourse.
If you dont understand email me.

ALso wondering how much the cortozone shots effect the joint. Had to have one shoulder shot, and now need the other one done.
Anyone know if there is any damage from this??

Thanks heaps!!

It's one of the wort injuries you can get. I messed mine up three years ago, would take a couple weeks off then come back and it would still hurt like hell. Took off about three whole months and then came back light and haven't had any problems since. Mine is always on heavy bench and lateral raises. Don't force the issue if it bothers you, take some time off, it will only get worse.

Careful with the cortozone, takes the swelling and pain away but, needs to time to help the jiont. Since it feels better people go back to lifting hard only to tear things up more. They are great but be careful and take your time. Mine has been popping for years - doesn't hurt that much just sounds like hell but, then again almost all of my jionts pop.

I also have a terrible right rotator cuff. There is a good article on stretching on t-mag. It might help. check out:

You might consider Active Release Technique. (Read more about it at t-mag.com -- do a search under ART.)

As I understand it (and I may not have the complete picture) ART is a form of chiropractic that breaks up soft tissue scars that cause alot of problems. The Dr.'s name is Mike Leahy, he is supposed to be awesome with shoulders and carpal tunnel. I've read that it hurts like hell but really works. He recently did Milos Sarcev's shoulder.

He's located in Colorado, but for many it seems it's worth the trip. I'm heading down next month for some work on my lower back, neck and elbow.

It costs $150 first session, $75 IF you need additional sessions. It's billed as chiropractic -- so insurance may cover it (mine does at 60 percent).

What attracted me into trying is that ART's goal is to fix the problem permanently in a limited number of sessions -- not just to treat symptoms.

With all that said, I have yet to try it. I have high hopes though... I'll let you know how it worked (if any are interested). Personally, I'd definitely consider it before surgery.

Also, you might want to start glucosamine sulfate -- 3000 mg/day split into 2 doses. It takes about a month to get onboard, but does help ligament/tendon/joint injuries.

Good luck.

Yes I messed mine up last year. Had to take 2 months off. Once back I started to include L-Flyes in my workouts twice a week. This is nothing more than lying side ways on a flat bench. Take a light dumb-bell in one hand. Rest your elbow on your hip area. Raise the weight slowly up and then back down. There are picture of these and many other rotator exercises at www.workout.com

I do the same excersises 2x per week vitaman.

You can also do this in bed with a full water bottle or beer. Afterwards, reward yourself with a cool refreshment!!

Works for me.

Hey bro, Like cleaner said, be careful with the cortizone shots. Both my cuffs are messed up from baseball. Had cortizone shots three years ago and ya it felt great but I kept playing ball and screwed them up some more...................."B"

I'm now suffering from a rotator cuff tear. I'm out till July. I was prescribed deca by my doc to help out the joint. Not too long I posted something about my rotator cuff problem and Sasben responded with some good advice. Do a search for rotator cuff and you'll see it.
