I've not yet come across a true ectomorph. Most people are somewhere in between. I thought I was an ectomorph when I first started training. I weighed 55kg only. After I discovered what my body responded too, I slowly climbed to 90kg. The main thing is that you may not be able to train like a mesomorph and expect similar results. What worked best for me was to focus on compound movements. For 2 months I just concentrated on squats, dl, and bench. At the end of 2 months I gained 5 kg (not on cycle). My diet also had to change. Instead of eating just 4 or 5 meals, I had to eat around 7 meals. It's a major hassle but due to a fast BMR, it's necessary. What I do on weekends is buy lots of chicken breasts, marinate them, then put them in the fridge. When I go out in the day, I bring two servings with me so I can just microwave them. I also supplements this with 3 MRPs per day.

The main thing with an ectomorphic body is to not overwork yourself when you start. Nowadays, though, I find that I make better gains by training regularly. I've got my share of isolation exercises and my body is responding well to them. I'm not scientist to tell ou why that's happening, I'm just sharing my experience.

In the end you're doing the three basic things needed to grow. Lift heavy, eat, rest. That's all there is to it. You just have to modify your program to make it work for your body.

I hope this helps.
