![]() ![]() ![]() Dorian yates says in his own words, that if you take a muscle to failur, thats enough, if you do any more sets, you wont increase your size, but you will increase the time that muscle wants to rest.. so a routine like this.. chest: incline press..1 set failur how do you guys feel, why do you think that more sets is needed? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I have always found that its a matter of how your body responds to that particualr training method. In theory yeah, thats all that is needed...IF...you have really fatigued the muscle into failure, and created the proper stimulation needed for growth. I personally on many excercises only do 3 sets a peice, no more. I do think volume training has its place if your shooting for different muscle fiber training, or just a good switch for a week, but other than that I really dont see much of a need for it. Hit the shit hard, like your life depended on it right out of the gates..and thats all you need...but as for one set, I really dont think that would be enough for me personally. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Dorian Yates says eat, train, sleep and you can be as big as him. Bullshit. Use enough chemicals and you can do one set. He also says to warm up first before the one set TO FAILURE. His warm up sets are like pyramid sets. ------------------ IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() What is one set failure is that where you just give it all you got until you cant do it any more. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I've had the pleasure of seeing one of his workouts. When he says 1 set to failure he means 1 working set, he still does a few warmup sets. And there is a big difference between his failure and what I see most people do, you have to experience it to know what I mean. When he hits failure he literally can't do anymore, another comparable set after that would be impossible. Buy his video and you'll see what I mean. ![]() IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Theres some really good answers here. The thing to keep in mind is that you shuld do what ever works for you. I can't explainit, but once you've found a workout that works for you, you'll know it. Providing you give enough stimulation to the muscles and eat / sleep enough for proper recovery...you will grow. Most of the novice trainers out there have major problem with OVER TRAINING. Most would benefit from simple 1 set movements. I wouldn't put much faith into the routines that the pro's use. You must understand that alot of this is B.S., the mega sets that some do would be impossible for most of us unless we too were using every chemical known to man. BPP IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I agree bros., youve gotta find what works for 'you'. I read about routines and all different types of set and what "really" work and that BS. Thats all good, but, I may not work for you. Take it, tweak it, find what does work for you. Like Yoda said, cant really explaine it, but when you find something that does work, 'you' will know it. ![]() ![]() ![]() For me I like to do e few lighter sets pyramiding up and 2 sets at my heaviest weight. Sometimes I only have enough energy for one set though. It's interesting that Ed Coan does 1-2 sets at his heaviest weight as well. I agree with the rest of the fellas that you have to find what works for you. It is good to see other what kind of methods other very successful people use. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() i think also though people AS should do more shit then someone who isn't assuming they both are advanced lifters... the AS alone should make the person be more capable of doinog another 3set (i am currently on supersets...3sets of 1 excercise for 1 muscle...and i do 3 muscles each day...3 days wk...ex)chest,shoulders,tri quads, hams, calves back, traps,bi's i don't count abs...i do those every mon and friday) anyway if i was on AS i would do my supersets, then i would do 3 sets of another excercise for that muscle but not supersets do u see what i am saying...?? hope this helps IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Damn, its a bitch to know what to do to grow. I personally do 4 sets starting light and increasing weight on the cable crossovers to pre-exaust then i do 3 sets of pressing, then ill add some flys to finish. On my Bi's i change everyonce and awhile. one day ill mix it up with several excersises and the other day ill just to cable curls starting at 70 and going to 130 with 20 sec rest inbetween sets. Im probly overtraining too huh. Oh well, ive only been lifting since Aug. of last year. By the way, should i be training a body part more than twice a week? Some people say its overtraining, others say its not enough. All help is greatly appreciated. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() I admit I am a novice...a punk. But the only gains I have ever really made in weights have been in the last year. And it involves just doing the basics, almost no isolation movements. I only do 1-3 work sets after a warm up. And other then that I try to go heavier each work out. If I am getting bigger and stronger that is enough. When I was in my teens and twenties I believed Joe Weiders magazines and would do 45 sets in an hour or hour and half. Lots of lateral flyes and junk. Also back then though I was a competitive runner, somedays running 30 miles. Hard to keep body weight on with all that running. My work outs now are brief. I have put on 12 LBS of body weight on in the last 12 weeks and jumped my best bench by 70 LBS. Of course my MD put me on some replacement testo and HGH in that time too. That is the nice part about getting older....the MD's can't wait to give you AS.....LOL IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You need to build your body up to trick yourself into doing more than you think you can do...Start light to warm up but it is the LAST most powerful failure set that does it to you. not 5-10 last heavy sets..in that respect I agree... IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After reseach and experimentation, one all out balls to the walls set 6-10 reps is all that is need to stimulate that muscle into growth. I can see significant strenght in the same muscle by working it again 7-9 days later. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() i stay at one or two reps below failure for four sets then do one to two sets to failure with one forced rep. i like strip sets and supersets. try doing squats with 315 for twelve, then immediately go to hacks for a set of twenty to failure. not reccomended for the weak stomached.
