pople tell me that protein doesnt build muscle it only strips away fat? they say you need a lot of carbs, fat and protein to build muscle, and low carb low fat hight protein diets dont acheive that?

i am 200 lbs, so if i ate 350-400 grms of protein a day, low carbs moderate fat, all my carbs caloreis and fat calories before my workout, for the energy to lift extremely heavy weights, 5-10 rep range, falilur, taking energy pills also before lifting, and 8-12 hours sleep, i would gain muslce weight?
i lift correctly, infrequently, 3x a week , training each body part 1x per week...this wont give me less fat weight, mostly muscle weight?
thanx

Bro, your question is hard to follow. Ok, I think I got it. 1) People go on high protein low carb diet to burn fat. Putting your body into a state of "Ketosis" does that. Protein is the foundation of all muscle building. Protein does not burn fat, your metabolism does. 2)People that do high carb and fat diet want to gain weight, praying that they will convert it into muscle.

You have to determine what your goals are. Plus if you weigh 200 lbs and only workout 3 times per week, and consume 350-400 g's of protein per day, you will get fat and gain weight. Maintance is 1g for every lbs you weight. 2g's per lbs of body weight to gain weight and keep your gains after a mass cycle. Good Luck

Muscles are AMINO ACIDS... Traces of all amino acids are in your muscle cells. Creatine being the least of which. Protein builds muscle almost always in an overfed state. If you want to burn fat yet maintain muscle that's possible but burning fat and gaining muscle is a much more complicated task. Eat your carbs to fuel muscle without carbs insulin levels don't rise and generally your body WILL NOT build muscle. 300-400 Grams of protein per day is a waste unless you are fueling your muscles. Otherwise your body will break down amino acids for energy and not build muscle. Take your protein to 200-265 grams a day get your complex carbs, and get your unsaturated fats, from oil like canola flaxseed or olive oil, peanut butter will work too not too much though. Then get your calories to at least 3500 a day and worry about your high protein diet with low carbs when you weight 20lbs more. That's how your body works..Go with what works not with some high lowfat low whatever diet...balance carbs 40 protein 35 fats 25.. sorry so long don't listen to the local tough guy.. read your magazines and do your research...

Hey ComFed !!

Great analysis...how do you know all this shit ? I get in heated debates with a guy I work with over protein, he runs triathlons and love his carbs and eats almost no protein. You are right, if you build muscle you need protein, otherwise it is wasted.

Three words: Positive Nitogen Balance.

Cornfed puts it well - balance is the key.

As to fat loss/muscle gain, well, absent extensive supplemantation or AAS use, you must have a caloric deficit to lose fat and/or a caloric surpluss to gain muscle. This makes the simulteaneous pursuit of both goals incompatible.Yyou are better off cycling.

My $0.02.

It's dangerous to be serious unless you are also stupid.

It is definately tough to gain muscle while losing body fat, but not impossible. I recently had my BF checked and it is down about 3% in 8 weeks. My weight gone up a couple of pounds. Based on this, I can say it is possible, but difficult. I haven't been doing AS either, just a stict diet mixed with lifting and some cardio.
