Hello Iron Brothers. I am very lean (5%bf), and I dont like to waste egg yolks by throwing them away. I just break'em up and fry'em up. The whole egg. I usually fry about 2-4 a day and I haven't had any problems with my liver. But a friend of mine says that healthy adults should not eat more than 4-6 whole eggs per week or their liver could start having problems. I know the egg white is easier on the body than the yolk, but I also know that the yolk has like 7 grams of protein and cholesterol and other essensial fatty acids which are good since I am trying to gain as much weight as I possibly can. Anyways to the bros who know their eggs, how many yolks and whites do you think a healthy liver can handle per week???
Thanx for your wisdom bros.

This is the first Ive ever heard of that..I think your bro was pulling your leg or something..egg yolks have a very specific amino acid profile, and is very benificial, cutting or bulking I always have at the very least 3-5 yolks with my eggs..but as far as liver damage...its new to me..

later,
WCP

geez i hope not, i have a plate of whole eggs all scrambled up in front of me.

i have never heard that either about the liver. could be due to the high cholesterol in eggs, but i doubt the liver will have trouble. mines a trooper at least.

Thanx WCP. I think he meant to say that eggs are harder than other foods to digest. In some countries, they mix egg whites with cement to clog holes in radiators. Thats because of the molecular structure of eggs (very strong and hard to break apart). I think there is a little truth to what he says. I mean eggs are just a little bit harder on the liver and I could see how long term and heavy use (I mean like 5 or more eggs a day) could some day weaken the liver in a way. Just my opinion.

egg yolk is saturated fat. It's no better for you than grease from a Big Mac. I don't know if it's hard on your liver, but saturated fat is bad for your arteries and your heart and leads to atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. THis is definetely true for SEDENTARY people and people that are predisposed to heart trouble or high LDL cholesterol levels, but unfortunately I have no idea what the effect is for BBer's. I do know that saturated fat, or any kind of fat, is essential in the bodies formation of natural test levels, and I also know that Don "the ripper" Ross ate steak, eggs, and Dianabol and died at about 44. SO, to sum it up, predisposed=probably bad and the jury is still out on this. You should find out your family heart history to be sure.

Here in Belgium we have "Omega eggs" low in cholesterol because the chickens are fed with seafood (alg is the Dutch name, don't know what it is in English).
They cost almost 3 x times the price for a usual egg, but for your health it is worth it.
This is no joke: my wife sometimes makes "advokate" which is a liquor. You need eggs and alcohol etc. Afterworths you put the advokate in the refrigerator and after a few days thanks to the fat and cholesterol
your advokate is ready. Since I hate fat, she made it from Omega eggs (only once). After 6 weeks in the fridge it still was not stiff. So we gave up but drank it like it was.

Egg yolks are only about 30% sat. fat, the rest is polyunsats, mostly oleic acid. If the yolks were primarily sat. fats then they would be solid at room temp. Eggs also contain lecithin, which helps prevent fatty buildup in the liver. Eggs have about 200-300mg of cholesterol in them, but the liver makes 2/3 of the cholesterol that is in your body, dietary intake is not a major factor. All in all, eggs are good. Your friend doesn't know what he is talking about.

That is the most rediculous thing I've ever heard. Since when does your liver filter solid foods?? Eggs are high in fat and cholesterol which may clog arteries and be bad for your heart, but bad for your liver?? Solids are digested in the stomach and small intestine where the majority of absorbtion takes place. Some times I wonder where raver comes up with these assinine posts.

I don't know very much about nutrition and the like... but aren't the saturated fats and such bad for people who don't exercise regularly? How does it effect people who lift weights and do cardio regularly?

Ive never of this either. Maybe he was talk'n about to much protein??? I dont remember now but I think I read to much protein intake could be hard on the liver.
Here you go, maybe this is what he may have been talk'n about:

Eating excessive protein, like most Americans do, is bad for your kidneys, liver, bones, cardiovascular system, and promotes vitamin and mineral deficiencies. It causes dehydration and is linked to osteoporosis, hypertension, and some forms of cancer. Too much protein is a bad thing.

Proteins have nitrogen in them and their breakdown in the liver creates ammonia. Ammonia is toxic. It is a poison to every cell in your body, especially your brain cells. So you pee it out. This is partly the point in going pee, to save your body from ammonia. Excessive protein intake can also make your blood acidic. To resist this change your body forces water out of your blood and pulls calcium from your bones into it. Another problem with high protein intake is that it usually means certain foods, like brussel sprouts and other vegetables, are being displaced from the diet.
