ok about a week ago my wrists started to hurt on the outside of my arm all the way to the middle of my forearm, now today when i did curls, when i realesed the weight from my hands and put it down it was pretty bad pain, it seems like if I grip it tight it hurts really bad when i let go and open my hands up, anyone have any ideas on what it is and if so, what i can do to help it. It's getting me mad I cant work out hard in this pain!! thanks guys ------------------ IP: Logged |

yeah bro, it's more than likely either tendonitus, or carpel tunnel syndrome. If it's carpel and left untreated it can result in permanent nerve damage... been there done that. [This message has been edited by Rich1 (edited May 27, 2000).] IP: Logged |

Bro you just perfectly described the pain i was in a couple of years ago,i lived with it for a month and a half before i was told by my doc that i had a stress fracture, probably from some heavy curls i was doing. All he told me to do was rest it for about a month, ice it,use a heating pad and wrap it when you first start back lifting. It worked for me.This may not be what your problem is but it sounds like it may be.If it continues i would go see a doc. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Could be tentonitis, you should go to a doctor. Tape your wrists before training and for curling (I presume you where reffering to biceps curls) you should use an EZ bar. If there is pain with a camberred bar, you should use dumbels and forget the bar, at least for a while. Jeff IP: Logged |

i know exactly what your talking about, definatly use the ez bar for curls it helps alot but not 100%, it also hurts like hell if i do upright rows, try to avoid using any strait bars for a while it helped for me over time, but some days it comes back and it hurts like hell . take it slow for a couple of weeks. if it gets any worse go to the doc. I once had the same thing. The pain was the worst as I would release the weight or when the pressure was releived. I just took it easy on bi's and mainly did concentration curls with what I could handle without pain. good luck. it sucks when you cant train like you want to. IP: Logged |

I am an athletic trainer and rehab high level athletes post op, so I see this all the time. The problem is I can't evaluate it over the computer very well. It dosen't sound at all like carpal tunnel...that is an overuse injury and is usually weeks before true onset like your describing. Go ahead and shedule yourself an appointment with an orthopedic physician. DON"T GOTO A GENERAL DOCTOR!!! The general physician has to work with too many broad subjects to be very good at any. They will splint it, tell you to ice and give you anti-inflam. med and send you on your way. If you're the type to not goto doctors then email me and I'll try to meet up with you on net and figure out a diagnosis and treatment. Till then, go ahead and ice, rest and get on a strong dosage of advil 600-1200mg/day or aleve 4-6/day (generic is okay) for the next 1-2weeks until you get to the doc. Also, only if you are going to give it 'real' rest....use some DMSO 2-3/day with a sterile dressing to help get rid of the inflammation and start the healing. (but don't let the doc know you have been using the dmso!!!) IP: Logged |

Whatever the fuck it is, wear wrist-supporting gloves, or wrap one of those elastic stretch things around it tight. Dont lift until you do this.

Have had a similar problem for years. Tendonitis in the wrists. Did you ever do any fighting? I go to a sports doctor, he has me use a gripper. But, most importantly SEE a sports doctor, not a regular MD. If you are on AS let him know. just my 2cents ------------------ IP: Logged |

When you get back to lifting normally again, wrap those wrists when you bench, etc. Once you've had a bad injury, like knees, you'll wrap no matter what the weight. I know a lot of you disagree from a "supporting muscles and tendons" standpoint to wrap all the time, but is it better to have strong tendons, joints, etc and get injured and be out for 2 months, or play it safe and wrap? ------------------ IP: Logged |
