Yup I usually use that form of training with some variation.
But its usually only 1-2 heavy sets per exercise.

I like the hit principles while Im dieting down..gets me in the gym and out before I can tire due to lack of carb intake.

But while bulking I prefer to time my sets out a bit longer..so I can stay heavier.

But like I said for dieting I love it.

I used Mentzers Heavy Duty II (HIT),

I noticed massive increases in strength but the only weight I put on was fat! - so I gave it up.
What the hell was going on? ( i wasnt using gear at the time)

HIT is High Intensity Training, low volume. I started using it when Mike Mentzer was competing after seeing a interview on him. Its the reason I was able to stay natural for so long. It takes its toll though, your definately more vulnerable to injuries. But it works great!!!! Its also nice to get in and out of the gym in under a hour, no more 2-3 hour marathon workouts.

Sorry guys, didn't do a thing for me. Felt pumped all the time, but no growth.

Got a hell of alot stronger, no real kick ass pumps like in volume training. I can live without the serious pumps which are temporary. HIT rules. To me its not just "a way", its "the only way".

If you got stronger buy didn't see size you were probably not using enough reps, some guys have to do more reps with HIT for some reason. Try something in the 10-15 rep range, you should see both.

You got a point. Mentzer et. al. were recommending 6-12 reps, many time i did four or five. Interestingly, Mentzer in his book "Heavy Duty",spoke of some clients having strength gains preceeding growth gains. Furthermore, his clients were receiving great gains from one static contraction set right after a work set. Any thoughts?

all i know is that high volume seems so stupid and unnecessary, more is not better,i havent made any gains in a while until 6 months ago i started hit strictly and followed it to the last drop and i totaly blew up 40 lb.im now 5ft8 220 lean and strong as hell, and my workouts last 30minutes 4 times a week.hit is incredible...its amazing that hit isnt the standard and most people still follow high volume training, just cause you feel pumped doesnt mean shit, ive been pumped so many times it did nothing for growth..

Strength gains often precede growth gains because the body adapts to the technique of the exercises I think it's called neuromuscular adaptation. Once the body adapts, more weight can be used despite minimal or no size increase.
