I read in Men's Health a while ago that you can only absorb something like 20g of protien per hour. Can anyone comment on this? I'm reading these posts about Bros making shakes with 60g of protien. Since I read that article, I've been using only half a scoop of protien in my shakes, but drinking at least 3 of them per day. BTW i'm about halfway thru my first cycle and I've gained 15lb and lost 2% body fat along the way with this plan. IP: Logged |

From my experience I've found that those studies are typically done on middle-aged average people......they are not targeted toward the juice ingesting lifter with greatly increased protein synthesis. Many other variables will affect how much protein your body can utilize.....such as your metabolism, training habits, anabolics, the amount of muscle mass you carry. I consume 6 meals per day, each having 70-90 grams of protein. I'm 271 pounds and currently on a cycle of sust/ref/eq.....I'm up 26 pounds on week 4. IP: Logged |

SS...noticing much bloat or water retention with that cycle? I'm doing the same cycle next month, hoping I won't look like the Goodyear blimp all summer :-) IP: Logged |

It is all based on body weight and metabolism. Everyone is different. The quality of the protein should also be considered. I have been taught in some of my Metabolism classes that 25 grams per hour was the maximum. Then the next semester, it was 50 grams. I personally go with between 40-60 grams per meal every 2-3 hours. Somec.......I do have quite a bit of water retention, but recently I've started to shed some of that. Check out my post "blood pressure update"....I had to toss in some water pills due to elevated blood pressure from the water retention. I'm still bloated, but I'm getting big....so I don't mind IP: Logged |
