a friend of a friend just passed away ouy of the blue, he was on gear not sure what kind or for how long. when they did autopsy they found that he had a heart attack and his heart was surrounded by fat and his heart was enlarged. he most likely was on gear for a while ,he was pretty big and young (29)

since the heart is a muscle it must also grow and become enlarged right?

does anybody know the effects on the heart

alot of people like myself get shortness of breath or difficulty breathing when on gear.

It is hard to loose a friend, but it is harder for those who die. Besides you die alone. But if his hart was in a layer of fat then maybe he wanted to be big at any cost. Having more then 25 % of bodyfat is really dangerous. I don't know how much he had.
Taking roids just like that isn't enough. You must control your lifestyle more then persons who don't use roids.
But even persons who don't use anything get heartstrokes.
It is always tough to loose someone you care for;

Jeff

Cardiomyopathy can be caused by gear.

Alcohol can also cause your heart to enlargen permanently.

Some people can grow enlargened hearts thru genetics or even exercise.

As for the fatty part...how clean did he eat while juicing?? Ever sneak some donuts or chips?

Just my opinion...but your bro probably had a pre-existing condition and the gear probably exacerbated his problem.

Sorry to hear about your bro.

I am stunned that all you guys are juicing and don't even have the faintest clue about some NOT UNCOMMON side effects from the stuff. The heart doesn't have many A/S receptors on it, but it most certainly can develop dilated cardiomyopathy from stresses such as high blood pressure brought on from too much gear for too long with poor attention to diet (and/or alcohol) and anybody's guess at the other stuff bodybuilders might throw in the mix. This is quite different from exercise induced 'athletes heart' which is not considered life-threatening.

And yes, there is an element of luck or genetics because some of the worst offenders (the pros) are still kicking. For now anyway.

And I'm very sorry for the loss of your friends friend, for whatever reason.

Maybe you should change your name to GROW AND DIE? (just joking dude)

I just thought you all might like a refresher course on possible side effects of A/S use. Keep in mind this data is collected from people receiving LOW DOSE (ie being treated by a doctor) A/S. When you up the dose to the levels most bodybuilders use, you can see that friends are occassionally gonna POP-OFF. Be as smart as you can with A/S. This board is a great resource to help you.

Cardiovascular and Hematologic

Decreased HDL cholesterol
Increased LDL cholesterol
Hypertension (sodium and water retention)
Clotting abnormalities
Myocardial infarction
LEFT VENTRICULAR HYPERTROPHY
Cerebrovascular accident

Endocrine and Reproductive

Decreased levels of reproductive hormones
Testicular atrophy
Oligospermia and azoospermia
Gynecomastia
Prostatic hypertrophy
Prostatic carcinoma
Priapism
Altered glucose metabolism (insulin resistance, glucose
intolerance)
Altered thyroid profile (decreased T3, T4, TSH, and TBG)

Renal

Elevated BUN, creatine
Wilms' tumor

Dermatologic

Acne
Alopecia
Temporal hair recession
Skin rash

Hepatic

Elevated liver function test results
Cholestatic jaundice
Hepatocellular carcinoma (> 24 mo use)
Peliosis hepatis (> 6 mo use)

Hepatitis

Musculoskeletal

Increased risk of musculotendinous injury
Avascular necrosis of femoral heads
Premature epiphyseal closure (adolescents)

Subjective

I'm sorry for your friend, I lost a freind also he was in his 20's they thought it was because he was drinking Ice water while working out that caused his heart attack. I think this shit just happens. I don't do cardio while on juce just incase. I hope my friend Joe Khory 1990 Durant, OK. and your friend can rest in peace.

real quick here...smooth muscle(heart) vs. skeletal muscle(quads, biceps, etc.) Your heart is not directly affected as much as are your skeletal muscles due to AS use...BUT...there are many causes of left ventricular hypertrophy (enlargement of the the part of the heart the pumps the blood through the body...too large=loss of effiency=decrease cardiac output) that are associated with athletics and bodybuilding. This is what causes the cardiac failure in most of the cases. Let me know if you want more info on this...
