I injected my last Sus250 redi-ject yesterday(sunday) and now the area around the injection site is light red and my leg is sore as heck. I think I might have an infection. Can you guys give me any advice?? I don't want the infection to get real bad before I do something about it.

Thanks

here is the deal. If the redness radiates outwards from the pin hole. Worry. See a doc. This is actually pretty common for beginners and experts. What happens is if any of the AS leaks out of the muscle, and becomes SubQ, you are very likely to exhibit the psuedo infection, Pain, Heat and redness. This is very common with TP, which can crystalize in the muscle. Only my 2 cents.

Too soon to tell, yet, but keep an eye on it. Never hurts to start antibiotics if available.

Definitely montior the area buddy
You can outline the red area with a pen to see if it is progressing.
Obdviously any red streaks......etc.

Take your temp
Look for swelling or feel the skin...
Feel the area for fluccuence ( boggyness)

If any of these seem to be getting worse......id definitely see your Dr.

Its possible to get a deep space infection which in severe cases needs to be opened up and drained.

Not trying to scare you.......just want you to be monitoring it to be on top of things.

I had a similar situation after a sust injection. Just watch it for the next few days. If it gets worse, get to a doctor. I had my doctor check my injection site last week, and he assured me that it was ok. It's so much better now (a week and a half after the injection) I was able to inject there again last night......with no problems.

Well, I'm still recovering from an infection in my leg. Actually, got one in both legs, but the antibiotics are taking care of the other leg before it got as bad as the first infection. The infection didn't start showing up till 4 days after the shot. and didn't start getting bad till 8 days after the shot. believe me dude, if you have an infection you will know it!!!!!

The area is still pink this morning. It doesn't appear to be progressing any. It is not as sore as it was yesterday either. It still worries me though. I am going to keep an eye on it.

BTW, What antibotics are effective against an infection like this?

Thanks-

The most likely bacteria would be skin flora, unless you injected non-sterile.
So, Staph Epi and staph aureus would probably be predominant.

Just watch it closely.
ABX choices would be
amoxicillin
Augmentin
Keflex

All cover gram mainly Gram + organisms
Augmentin is a bit more broad, but also quite expensive if you don't have insurance.
Keflex is cheap and effective.

Again just watch it .........watch for fever.....etc.

cephalexin (Keflex) would take care of it quickly and inexpensively...250 mg q 6 hr. 7-10 days.

Thanks jock28 and Ripp. I think am going to go to the doctor tomorrow morning just to make sure this thing doesn't get bad. I have a walk-in clinic near my house that isn't too expensive. I don't want to go to my family physician b/c of embarassment. My family physician knows my family well. I normally wouldn't go to a walk-in clinic but under these circumstances I think I will. Surely the doc at the walk-in clinic will be able to prescribe a simple antibotic to cure this up. Hopefully....

I'll write the ABX(keflex, amoxicilin, and Augmentin) on a sheet of paper and take it with me to the clinic. Just in case the doc has never delt with an injection infection before. It's probably real simple to diagnose...but I want to be prepared just in case.

BTW, the injection area is light pink(no red streaks or red areas) and it's not very sore. No more sore than a regular Sus250 injection. The one bad thing is that the light pink area is rather large(about 2inches by 3 inches). My temp is 98.2

Thanks-

Squatter is right, if you have an infection, you will know it, won't be any doubt. It's still too soon to tell & it sounds OK. I always keep keflex or the like around, just in case.

Yeah bud....

Still sounds ok.
Probably just a superficial infection.
Again....monitoring the site is your best bet.
Doesn't sound like its changing much...which is good.

The antiboitics we talked about are pretty common.
Keep us updated.

I got the same problem once with Sust250. If you have fever it probably is an infection, but in my case the fever lasted only 2 days. If you're feeling too much pain you can also take an anti-inflamatory, like Cataflam (from Ciba-Geigy) or nimesulide.

Madhacker, you touched a very important point now! reading your post I remembered that I really didn't inject it so much deeply into the muscle. In fact it probably leaked out in my case. I did it a year ago and until now I still have a little lump in my quad. (I think I was too scared of hitting a nerve).
