You have nothing to worry about. Air bubbles are not a problem with i.m. injection. Not to say you shouldn't try to get them out as best you can though.

you will be fine. If you were in any real danger you would be in the hospital right now and not writing this post. You need to inject a lot of air right into the vein to be in trouble.

No problem bigman. That's an old wives
tale. You don't have to worry when doing
an I.M. injection and even when doing an
I.V. injection you would have to have
a 1cc air bubble to do any harm.

Is 1cc about 10ml? I cannot remember exactly but someone posted something very similar to this before.

when taught by a MD when/how to administer injection it was suggested to deliberately create a small air bubble to bypass the wound area of the injection needle. this would push air in to the small hole and keep the injected material local to the site of delivery.

I have also read somewhere it would take an extremely large amount of air, close to 10cc's to do any harm...a few little bubbles wont hurt....although I always do my best to get them all out....gives me peace of mind...

If you put the needle in (in the butt) and hold it 45 then if there is a air bubble it will mount to the top of the syringe. When the plunger hits the end, the air bubble will still be in the needle. But it does not matter if you inject some small bubbles. You really need more to do any harm and even then it should be in the vein.

listen up bro i am in the medical field and it's not a good idea to inject air into the system, before you inject into the muscle draw back a little on the syr. to make sure you are not in a vessel( blood draw back into the syr.)if you are re-insert at another site. air in the blood cause's an embolus which can cause you to have a heart attack or stroke so be careful about your air in the needle, would hate something to happen to ya!

This is my first time posting here. I'm usually at the Renegade and former UG. It's ok for a small amt. of air to be in the syringe. 1) Yes, you need a large volume of air to cause serious harm. 2) It works as an air lock when you pull out the needle preventing you from wasting AS and bleeding all over the place.(use approx. .1-.2 cc) 3) Injecting air IM is not a problem, it might create a knot and hurt for awhile but it won't harm you. And finally you do need to aspirate approx .1-.2 cc to check for blood in the syringe which indicates that you hit a vein.
