Nolan Ryan said he threw so hard because he used to throw a football all the time. You can also try to strengthen your rotator cuff doing dumbell lateral raises in all different directions. IP: Logged |

i play baseball also and im also a pitcher. i have a workout plan that will help you gain about 3 mph over the summer. you will have to give me your email addy and i will have a friend of mine scan it and i will email it to you. but if you really want to throw harder check out some dbol and winstrol. i did those 2 for my first cycle and went from a 83mph pitcher to a 85-87 mph pitcher and 87mph coming from a 6'5 side arm pitcher is a pretty wicked combo. you cant beat the juice. im goin to do a cycle while im on the throwing program, so if all goes well i might be able to touch off into the 89mph range. good luck IP: Logged |

sorry to upset you bro but you are either born with the ability to throw hard or you are not. it is like jumping. sure you may up the speed by a few mph, but the majority of it is genetics. by the way- i played high school and semipro ball for 3 years total as a pitcher. peace ps - you can gain a little speed on your fastball with your legs, but not very much. and speed on your fastball also does not depend on a push off the rubber - Nolan Ryan had NO PUSH - he preached a "tall and fall" method. it is also like a pro tennis player. let me tell you, i also played collegiate tennis for 4 years and the guys with the fastest serves were often times the puniest players in college. Bro I coach highschool baseball. The way a person throws harder is through rotational forces. No upper body exercise will help this. In fact, getting too bulky up top will actually limit your arm speed. Professional pitchers do a light weight circuit for upper body. However, they train their lower bodies and abs (especially obliques) very intense. Perform a search for Dick Mill's site. It is called All About Pitching. Rotational Movement of the hips from your balance position until your frint foot lands is the difference between an 80 mph and a 90 mph fastball IP: Logged |

work the entire body, your legs are your power but your arms need strength as well, try hang cleans, powercleans, squat, and lateral raises. If anything will help they will. onix IP: Logged |

that myth about pitchers not supposed to lift heavy upperbody, especially chest, is not a factor(atleast to me). the more i bench pressed the harder i could throw, but i also took the time to stretch my muscles out before and after liftin. back when i was im high school i still threw overhand and i gained alot of velocity by spendin quality time in the weight room. that velocity i gained is what got me into college, and when i got into to college they started slowly gettin my arm angle down to the point where i now throw side arm. in my experience i would just hit the weight room and the juice and do plenty of long tossing and plenty of runnin. just throw 1 bullpen a week and spend the rest of your time long tossin(its the key). baseball is a game of long muscles, so dont cheat and not go through the full range of motion.also watch out for your tendons its a bitch when they tighten up on you. mike IP: Logged |
