Hey Ive got MCSE (means shit nowadays!!?) CCNA and doing CCNP. Cisco cert has exploded in the past 12 odd months with CCIE salaries at around 100,00 K plus. HOWEVER, the market is now declining. CCIE salaries here in the UK is going down gradually and ive seen them at around 60 K (Pounds). I guess its like MCSE. Around 3-4 years ago an MCSE could easily get about 45/hr contracting.....NOW its 20-25 / hour............. Anyway.tell me if ya wanna anything IP: Logged |

CCIE salaries in the US are not down. Cisco predicts that by 2004 the shortage will be greatest and it will take them 25 years to meet their own needs. A friend of mine works for a corporate recruiter and says Cisco themselves are hiring CCIE's. CCIE's can START at $200K depending as consultants depending on where you are. Not to mention all the travel that comes with it (for many consultants). You also might want to learn about wireless Internet and Networking based on the Cisco/ Motorola Invisix project..... Any IT bro's email me if you want. IP: Logged |

Hi efigy, I'm a MCSE and CNA (Novell). I'm interested in getting further certifications from Oracle and SAP possibly. What are your thoughts on that? Also, how's the cisco certification like? Is it really tough? AY IP: Logged |

I have my CCNA cert. I am waiting for some up to date study material for the CCNP ver. 2.0 exam (since I feel I wont be ready by the end of July to test on ver. 1.0) and then I will go for that next. In the mean time, I'm trying to pick up on some Linux! ------------------ IP: Logged |

AY: Oracle is good, but everything depends on what you want to do. do you want to work on databases, networking, systems admin. etc. I want cisco cause I'm in it for the money, Like Matthesky. said... cisco IS the top. ------------------ "conan, what is best in life?" IP: Logged |

efigy: Thanks for the answer. I think I'm tending more to the system admin, network engineer side. I like support and I've never been very good at databases. What would you personally recommend? I suppose my long-term goal is consultancy and maybe a move into project management. I know that SAP is pretty big in Europe and Cisco is big in the US. I just wonder which is a better course to take. Cheers mate, AY IP: Logged |

AY: take your interests into consideration and then think to yourself what is most needed? like this board, go out and do research. ask people with the certs you are thinking about getting, what they are doing and if their cert was worth it. It has been my experience that cisco is the way to go because the future will be full with it (VoIP etc.). btw. anybody looking for a job: ------------------ "conan, what is best in life?" I'm leaning towards the Network Engineer side. Especially since I have my Cisco cert. and I f*ckin love configuring and troubleshooting Cisco routers and switches. Also here in silicon valley, Net. Eng. make a lot more money that Sys. Admins and Net. Admins. CCNP, here I come, you're mine baby! Cisco certs carry a lot of weight out here and companies need people badly!! Just go to any job search site and do a search with keyword cisco, ccna, ccnp, ccie and see how many jobs come up for silicon valley and the salaries. Oh, btw, it looks like I might get promoted to Jr. Network Engineer in my company soon, I interview for the position next week. Wish me luck! ------------------ IP: Logged |

great luck to you! I've had a lot of great offers in the bay area from pre-ipo startups but the cost of living makes it so I have to get 20k more a year. so I have to turn them down. ------------------ "conan, what is best in life?" IP: Logged |

Okay, since we are all sharing and asking for help, please help a brother who is getting screwed. I am pretty much a whiz with computers, but I work as a financial analyst for a bank (3 years now). I have 10 years of banking experience and a degree in finance from a business college rated in the top 5% of all business colleges nationwide. Yet, I make barely 26,000. The point? I am thinking of pursuing a computer career. I can do and learn (teach myself)just about anything. What direction do I need to go in? I hear Cisco, but what do the acronyms mean? Do I need another university degree to make the big$, or can I learn on my own? If so, where do I start? I can't even think about buying gear on my salary now. And isn't that what it's really all about-Bodybuilding? Working is a means to being able to do what you really want. Thanks for your help. IP: Logged |

brutis... probably the first thing you should do is check out www.cisco.com there is quite a bit of information concerning the communications hardware and industry... cisco is presently offering the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network analyst) online for free... if you have an aptitude for computers network might be for you.....also check monsterboard... most companies are pretty desprerate for IT people and might give someone with no industry experience a shot...
