While on a recent trip to mexico- just to look around- I was rudely called out of line and taken into the "back room" to be searched for undeclared contraband. The first words out of the female customs officer was "steroids"- I mean that was pretty rude, you know with me being all natural and all. needless to say the male customs officer behind her was juiced to the gills-viens popping out all over, etc.. they seemed pretty disappointed when the found that I had nothing on me, but unfortunatly my friend had a couple of items-darvocet and ritalin(what can I say he has pain and trouble paying attention)- anyways the search process was less than thrilling and certainly thorough- lets just say that if I had been carrying anything they would have found it. I would like to add that being "felt-up" by a customs officer is a rather unpleasant experience- the thoroughness of the search making it more so. Well anyway this took about 1/2 an hour, they thundered on about a 5000$ fine for not declaring, then they let my friend off the hook, though he had to "abandon" his stuff- but all in all I thought that he was pretty lucky. I dont really know if there is a moral to this story. I am sure that the results could have been quite different had we acted differently or ran into "evil" customs officers- but I guess sometimes you just get lucky. To all the brothers that carry across- be careful- if the "man" suspects you his search can be very thorough. peace ------------------ IP: Logged |

Everytime I go to Mexico I get searched comming back. The most annoying part is that they ask you questions for 30minutes before they finally search you. I wish they would skip all of the threats and just search me so I can go. androx IP: Logged |

I would like to add that although the search was "thorough" I did not remove any of my clothing with the exception of my shoes which were bent back and forth in a vain effort to find stashed items that were not there. We also were not given any warnings we were just asked what we had and then taken into the "back" room. I too cross the border fairly frequently-once every couple of weeks, just to look around at what is available (information purposes only), this is the first time I was searched. I think that part of the reason is that is was a weekday and the almost no one else was crossing during the late afternoon. I think chances are much less on the weekends when it is madhouse at the border crossing. peace ------------------ IP: Logged |

Yeah, I think if it is a slow day they will grab the first big guy that comes through. When I came through the airport, I was the only one in a group of 20 to be searched. Pretty fun experience when you are strapped with $250 worth of gear down your pants. Bottom line is if you are big, you are a suspect. Good thing they did not frisk me, they sure tore through my luggage though! IP: Logged |

They dont arrest you unless you are carrying an amount that they consider intent to distribute, I had four bottles, and several people that were also in the room that I was taken to had quite a bit of gear on them, one dude had 20 deca redi-jects, two bottles and 20 sustenon taped all over his legs and he got the 500$ fine also so I am not sure how they decide what intent to distrute is. Originally it is a 5000$ fine however if you are cool and respectfull they can and almost always knock it down to 500$ and realease you within a few hours after they process you and make you fill out some paperwork and best of all you end up with no police record, the only thing you will have is an infraction on customs records which isnt a big deal and noone searches customs records so its really not that bad except for the 500$ IP: Logged |
