I am wondering what you can do to increase your verticle/// what kind of workouts can you do to help this and how long will it take to see rusults?

walk up to a wall. jump as high as you can and touch a spot. jump and hit that spot as fast as you can 25 jumps x 3 sets.

hang cleans with a jump and front squat.

do everything on your toes.

i'm 5'9", white(like it matters), and i can slam a basketball.

hope it helps. plyometrics is the way to go for explosiveness and vertical.

Bro,

I'll hook you up - I used to be a college basketball player. Obviously you don't want any extra pounds.

You know what did it for me? Sprints. Nothing longer than 100 meters (basketball court is only 94 feet), and lots of suicides on the basketball court.

The other thing I did was a lot of jumping.

I did depth jumps, which are like this:

Jump off of a box about a foot high. As soon as you hit the ground, explode up. I mean the second you hit the ground. That will quicken impulse speed.

The other thing I did was a lot of standing broad jumps up and down the court, and also up-hill. Jump as high and as far as you can, land, gather yourselef, do it again.

By doing thse you are combining explosiveness (depth jumps) with power) The sprints are awesome too.

bro I'm a 6-1 white guy whose dunks have made "Plays of the week". Of course now I hit the weights hard and weigh 253. But I can still dunk the ball.

Standing broad jumps upstairs and short windsprints. Believe it or not, but really hitting the abs hard helped me a lot.

But then again, I'm 6'7", so maybe some of the midgets, I mean "vertically challenged" fellas can help you out better.(J/K)

squats, lunges, any calf exercise, sprints, jumping rope, jumping w/ weights, but plan and simple go to the gym and keep jumping. ive increased my vertical 5in in the last 3 weeks. im only 5'10 and im about 5in away from dunking.

I know this guy who is 5'2 and I am 6'3 and he could jump higher then I could he swear that lunges did it for him and he is white.

Do exactly what Matttheskywalker said to do, but make sure your training includes squats and lunges. Polymetrics are key though.

The pros in high jumping (athlets) is JUSING marijuhana

Alot of the advise above is total bunk I'm soory to say...
first of all, 'those special shoes' are total BS. They've been proven time and again to be less than garbage. Also, calves play a VERY small part in jumping. Calves help your verticle like biceps help your bench, You need em', but they really don't do anything major.

The fact of the matter is, power snatches and power cleans will increase your verticle like nothing else. They did a study on the polish weightlifting team (I have the video) and on average (including the heavy weights) the 40+ lifters had an average verticle jump of 38". With several lifters close to 50". How many track athletes and basketball players boast 48-49" verts???? One of my lifting partners high jumped 6'11" in highschool and triple jumped 48'. At the time he weighed 200 at 6'3" and power cleaned 308. Now, at 255 he has a 37" vert. At 285 and 6'4" I was tested by NFL scouts and jumped 34". My best is 36" done after a snatching 330 for 3 singles.

lifting wont do it, unless you use quick explosive lifts like the clean...best thing to do is plyometrics, and the best way to train is on the bleachers at a football field, what you do is go all the way up a row and all the way down, but the key is alternating your style...one time jump off the left leg all the whole time, then jump off your right leg, jump off both legs, jump onto every other step, etc...just jump up and down those fuckers anyway you can think of, the key is when you land from a jump, you immediately explode into another jump, as quick as possible and as high and explosive as possible...picture your calves and quads as rubber bands, when you land, snap those fuckers, thats plyometrics...do each way you can think 3 times each...then go to the track and sprint 1/4 lap, then walk 1/4 ,then sprint 1/4 lap etc... do this for 2 laps (1/2 mile) you calves should be sore as shit...the 'jump sole shoes' will give you a video with the same kind of workout, its not like you just wear them around the house...btw im 5'10" 207 andcan dunk...36 inch verticle, not bad for a white boy
