If I were to ice my shoulder directly after big chest-shoulder workouts would it prevent that area from growing as much as the others. My thought behind it is as follows: Since that is the moment that I am swole and have good circulation and in need of nutrients and protein, I would prevent the same amount of nutrients and protein to get to that area because I am reducing circulation to that area. Basically I am thinking that by icing my shoulder, I am shrinking the blood vessels; thus reducing circulation. This lack of circulation would prevent the same amount of protein and nutrients to hit that area. If this happened then, in time, one shoulder would grow more than the other. I am completely missing the point or what? Any opinions? IP: Logged |

This is an excellent question, which I would not think has even been considered. In theory you know that it would slow down blood flow, however looking through some old science papers on DOMS etc, The slow down would be bad from 24-48 hours, that is when a lot of the scavenging occurs to get rid of the toxins etc from training and muscle damage. I doubt you would hinder your gains from a icing session after your workout, the repair process would occur albeit slower, later in the night when you rest. ------------------ IP: Logged |
