No,
I don't think too many of us look foward
to heavy squats. Keep in mind however that
squats have many positive benefits. Increase natural test production, involve more than just quads ect. I'm sure not very many greats
avoided squats. Don't short yourself.
Good Luck......

Bro,
You're not the only one! They really burn me out, so I can never do any other leg exercises afterwards. Usually I'll do them Every other week for like 9-10 sets and then call it a day. The following week I'll do an all-out leg workout with heavy leg presses, extensions, etc. I find this has continually put on mass, and I only have to squat every other week.

Wrong attitude my man. Because most people hate squates is the reason they are walking on tooth picks. Not too many people can handle squats. They are excrutiating if done right...But it's euphoric excrutiation. Put yourself above those that refuse the allmighty pain of the single best movement, the squat. Learn to look forward to the agony. It will reward you. I myself love squating and deadlifting and ironically hate benching...Normally it's completely the oposite. That's why some elite physique wanna-be's look so deformed...All they do is bench and bi's. They can't handle legs. Or if they do any leg movements it's the high and mighty leg extention. It's sad when people stare at you in awe when squating. I frequently get looks like I'm an alien being with magical powers. Squats are for the men...I'll be more than happy to leave the leg extention vacant for the boys.

I used to hate squats and didn't do them very often, even tho I did leg press, hip sled and extensions like a madman. My back used to hurt, so I trashed the fucker 3 times a week for 3 weeks, and now I squat like a madman. It went up 100lbs in 2 weeks, and it's now my favorite excersize.

For some reason this puts a big fucking smile on my face. Good for you bro. People who don't do legs I think would be suprised how much the rest of their lifts would increase if they started squating.

I myself used to hate squating until oneday I went to a bodybuilding seminar and was told I have to do them in order to get huge so I started them again a wow did the weight go up fast now I look forward to them like no other. also when I started I to used the smith machine for a while say a moth or so but one day I went in there and somebody was on it so I had to use the rack, this might sound stupid but I foun it to be easier than the smith and that is when the weight started to increase.

If you want to increase your size and strength there's just no real substitute for the big 3 - squat, deadlift, and bench. (You can throw the power clean in also if it's really more of a strength/performance type goal). Basically, if you don't do these movements you are either injured or a 'fitness boy'.

In American you would never guess that the squat and deadlift are the kings of mass builders. Bench isn't even close - feels like an isolation exercise after you're finished. In most other counrties the bench is not nearly so popular.

Amazing that all these guys want to be big and you can ussually get a squat rack or a Deadlift/Olympic Lifting platform no problem(unless someone's doing fucking curls in the squat rack - pansy asses). The benches are always crowded though.

you have to look at squats differently from any other just think that the legs are the strongest bodypart and when you put up 315 or better your whole body will get stronger and other gym mates will be ckin you out.

I love deadlift+squat...hell I even like bench now that I'm on fina. The key to liking the squat is shitloads of ammonia salts (aka smelling salts)...psychological pump up like hell...feel great...like a short lasting line of crack. The key to liking deadlift is just mentally getting yourself reved up for it to the absolute max...smelling salts help there too dude. Bench and smelling salts aren't good though. I tend to forget the referees commands then

i'm gonna have to say that if you truly go crazy on squats and hit them almost too much from the get go, they will soon become the most anticipated day of the week simply because like some bros previously mentioned, everyone in the gym will be a bit awestruck and the weight will just pile on...best advice i can think of is to mentally just turn the nervousness 180degrees around and just step up, smile and blast them shizzys

I love squats. Sometimes I will do them on days I don't even lift legs just to break the spirits of people that think they are lifting heavy on them. For instance, I was doing chest and this guys was grunting groaning and making a big stink with 315 on the bar one day (plus he had knee raps and all that bullshit) all for 6-7 reps. I walked over and asked him if I could jump in and cranked out 25 beltless reps walked away and continued chest. Needless to say all the grunting and groaning ceased after my set. I hate when people make a scene for small amounts of weight.

I love Smith Machine squats...don't like
free squats. I do them on the Smith
Machine once every three weeks. I do
free ones the rest of the time. I can
go all out when the weight is supported,
but I understand the importance of doing
the real thing too. I do my free ones
in a power rack with the rails set so I
just bump them at the bottom. This gives
me the confidence to go to failure. My
squat weight is pretty pathetic, but I've
never seen any of the pussys in my gym
doing more. Most are one plate squatters...
why bother?

I HAD a love/hate relationship with my friend squat until I hurt my lower back about 4 months ago doing deadlifts (too much weight not proper form.. BAD BOY..). My lower back is starting to come around now but I am scared to go back to squatting. I just use leg press right now because it doesnt really use alot of my back. Any of you guys had any lower back problems and how did you go about fixing it? I would dearly love to start squatting again.

Cheers,
Gez

I'm another love/hate squats guy. My low back is messed up so I didn't do them for years. Result - puny legs. I've finally learned to do them on the Smith machine and I finally have real legs. I dread squats sometimes. It is so excruciatingly taxing. To me squats are the most mentally and physically tough exercise, but they are the single most important one to do.

Squats are awesome... I hate going into leg days, but when it's over, you feel like you've really accomplished something. Getting that barfing feeling, not being able to drive well going home (stiff clutch), not being able to walk or sit up off the can... these all mean you're growing.

Do those ass-2-heels and watch your legs explode!

I used to do squats all the time many years ago...UNTIL...I ripped the shit out of the soft tissue around L5 (low low back). YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT PAIN!!! Putting a pair of socks on was the hardest thing I had to do while I was healing. That put me out for like 2 1/2 months. That was about 4 years ago. Since then, I have stuck to heavy leg presses, leg extensions and leg curls. Can't say I'm depressed at all with my leg developement. They're bigger than ever.

When I used to squat, my knees would be sore, low back would ache. No more. I don't miss them at all. If you focus and train hard enough, then leg presses, extensions and curls will get them big.

Personally, I'm in this for the long haul. Not just the look, but the long term health benefits. When I get in my late 40's and beyond, I don't want the screwed up back and knees. I'm not afraid one bit to push myself to and beyond the limit (for those that wish to flame and call names). Rip the shit out of your low back and see how humbling that is.

Squats rock when you do them right and watch your legs grow. I personally use the smith machine for them and find that they aren't to bad at all. For the past 2 months I've started my quad workouts with very heavy leg extensions for a little change and immediatly jumped to squats and my legs are developing better than I thought. You want big legs do them..and train your hamstrings like a bitch on a seperate day. For the first year ever I'm getting complimented on my legs which is pretty nice.

cheers
