How do you compare this w/ high set training ie 2 sets per exercise vs. 4-5 sets per exercise.

Ive been training with low sets my whole lifting career, and ive gone from 5ft7 and 120 pds to 5ft8 and 220 pds! The reason why I started was when I was a novice and was really getting into bodybuilding, Dorian was Mr Olympia. I listened to his training philosophies, and they made sense. Now when I train, the lighter weights dont leave me feeling as though Ive really stimulated the muscle, so I have to train really heavy. When I go to do a set with a weight that I can get, say, 7 reps, I feel a pull; a struggle or something in my soul, and I fight the weight like it was my mortal enemy. I take all of my main sets to TOTAL failure and dont do extra sets because I cant! When ive done a set of say benches to failure, I cant do another set through the same plane of movement without drastically reducing the weight, and whats the point of that? Ive got more exercises to do, so I move on. I do more if I feel I need to, but usually one or two sets per exercise is all I need, and I grow like a weed! Im right now bigger and stronger than quite a few of the guys at my gym on sauce so I know what works well for me!

I follow his workout routine that he published in Flex a few years back. It worked great and I even instructed two other guys and they also had good results.
But two hernia's later I think I'll have to change up my routine to still allow for muscle failure but not with in 2-3 super heavy- super intense sets.
I am still going to follow his theory but add dropsets to get to muscle failure/BFT.

From what I have seen of Yates' routines in the mags (which have to be taken with a grain of salt), they are not really low volume. While they had fewer sets per exercise, he had several exercises per bodypart. So what is the difference between 3 exercises with 4 sets each, as opposed to 5-7 exercises with 2 sets each?

I am aware of Yates' intensity during training, which is most likely his defining characteristic.

I've gone from 6 2" 120 to 6 2" 220 in my bodybuilding career.
Never trained low volume.
Or seriously heavy.
Always focus on form.
Without exception.
I grow just fine.

I would have to agree, form is the key. Light weight, heavy weight, it doesn't matter if you don't have good form.

I have gone from 5'11" 150 lbs to a current weight of 265 lbs. I do not use dorian's one set approach. My sets vary between 2,3,4, and 5 per bodypart. I am on a consistent schedule of cycling my sets and reps. I am also starting to notice that at this size, I need less and less, I just recently threw out the 5th set, I just don't need it anymore. I say to go with a volume approach training to failure, then later on in your career if u need to reduce it then do so.

Both ways of training are backed up by champions, determine what u need.

If u copy Dorian's workout just because he does so, you are a fucking idiot. Determine what you need. These guys that are 200-210 lbs are a joke (I'm talking off season wt. here, not ripped).

I went from 10lbs 2 oz to 260# using low volume high intensity. I am not a heavy weight using "look at me kinda guy", I use as much as possible with perfect form. I think intensity is really all mental, how far into the pain zone you are willing to walk.

Form is definitly key I train with lower sets when clean and turn it up a bit when on the crank, recover much quicker.
