Things ive heard about Diet cola, whether true or untrue.

1. Slows protein digestion.
2. Carbonation can NOT replace water for hydration (something with the carbonation screws it up).
3. I dont know anymore, but im going to stay away from diet coke, although once in while wont hurt anything.

The caffeine basically dehydrates you, so you can't count it as part of your water intake. You should always drink 12 oz water for every 12 oz. caffeinated beverage to even this out. As far as carbonation, I don't know. Crystal Light tastes better anyway and it doesn't make you thirsty.

I read somewhere that a very highly praised personal trainer would refuse to train those who drink carbonated drinks. I believe there was also an article in Musclemag on this topic some time back. It was an interesting read, still trying to find it. Whatever it was I stopped drinking carbonated drinks after that.

just cause they name it diet means only that theres a sugar substitute as a replacement and thats usually alot worse than just drinking sugar from the start ex. sacharrin,
aspertame its all the same garbage the diet name of soda came out as a marketing devise to try to convince those overweight people that its still ok to drink soda, water is still the #1 choice.

Do you people realize that aspartame is in about 95% of all those powders you shovel down your throats everyday? But let me guess, aspartame has a different chemical structure when contained in protein powders rather than in soft drinks, and as a result isn't as harmful. Is that it? LOL...Please.

Hats off to Ghost..
He's 100% right. I am staring at my 5 lb. jug of Opt. Nutrition WPC, and it says here in plain English "Contains Aspartame."
I don't know what Aspartame has an effect on as far as protein absorption goes, but I do know what I just read on this label is true.

Studies show that those who are overweight and stopped drinking diet drinks with aspertame lost an average of 20lbs per person with no other modifications to their diet or lifestyle.

i am also a firm believer in not drinking diet sodas. i used to drink it by the case, and it just felt different when i cut it out completely at 2 weeks out from shows. i felt better, lost fat faster, and foods tasted better without diet sodas.

it just doesn't need to be in your diet. if you really want to optimize your workouts, stay away from that stuff....i drink at least 1 1/2 gallons of water a day, even when i'm not dieting. plain water is the drink mother nature intended for us, and that's what i'll stick to.

no offense, stew...i know you've got an excellent product...i just choose to eat all real foods for my protein requirement, which is a pain in the ass, but works very well.

Many diet drinks no longer contain aspartame, or not all aspartame anyway. They now use something called acesulfame-potassium.

I wouldn't get my shirt in a knot over this personally. Sure you have to drink water, but I also like diet cola, mineral water, etc. to avoid being bored to tears.

Don't tell me mineral water is bad too.

come on guys, how can diet soda be so bad for you? i really don't care if i could improve 0.01% by not drinking it. In fact i do it all the time. When i'm dieting it's i the only thing i can have as much as i can, and i got ripped drinking up to 2 liters of it a day! I'm not trying to say that the articles behind this are not true, i just think difference in drinking it or not are basically the same as taking hmb or stuff like that: nothing you can see. just my 0.2

Stew, what a laugh!!!!!

They lost 20lbs when aspartame was discontinued?????
WTF??? Have you lost your marbles.....

Aspartame INCREASED weight-loss as the people
felt fuller for longer periods.

AND DIET DRINKS ARE NOT BAD FOR YOU.
Get your heads out of your ass for once and
for all. Unless you're at 4-5%, diet drinks will
have NO DISCERNABLE EFFECT WHATSOEVER
on your physique.
They have 0 calories.
If caffeine dehydrates you, get CAFFEINE-FREE
diet sodas dammit!!!
You can drink as many as you want.

An article ripping on diet sodas is one-thing,
but completely cutting them out due to the
aforementioned article is just plain ridiculous.
It has 0 calories!! How bad can it really be....
And one thing I know for sure, is that diet drinks
DO NOT AFFECT PROTEIN SYNTHESIS.
Aspartame is actually an amino-acid peptide
chain that is 400 times sweeter than sugar.
It's JUST AMINO-ACIDS, so why on earth
are you guys fretting?????

Godspeed

I definately remember seeing a photo backstage at the Olympia a few years ago, where two competitors were drinking diet coke as they were dehydrated. I think it was Paul Dillet and Shawn Ray if I remember correctly, so it can't be that bad for you.

Stew... what's your protein name? I like a powder when I am on the run after a good session. As far as whole foods without aspartame that give a big bump in protein, here's what I snack on : One non fat quart of cottage cheese (105 grams protein). An 8oz non fat yogurt (Lucerne.. 11 grams). Two small cans of tuna... (70 grams). That isn't much food and that's 185 grams a snack.
BTW, I use GlutaPro as a powder supp. No aspartame... anything good or bad to say about it, I'd like to know. Thanks.

Strength M.... the latest research on caffeine and it's diuretic properties is that for the very well conditioned athlete, especially those who do a lot of cardio, caffeine no longer acts as a diuretic. I have put this to the test, and it is true for me. Each of our bodies is an experiment of one, so I would recommend practicing if you were to adopt these thoughts as true.

BTW....the earlier snack I spoke of for protein (185 grams) has zero grams of saturated or hydrogenated fat and no transfatty acids.... solid stuff for staying lean and mean.
