My powerlifting partner's son lifts with us and he is 12 and has set the national ADAU powerlifting bench and squat records, he started when he was 10. I told my son he had to wait until he was 12 to start he is 10 now but I think that is to young for any serious lifting. But that is just my opinion.

8's pretty young, just make sure he does higher reps like 15-20 and lots of plyometrics and chinups/pushups. i once saw this old man push his like 13/14 year old son in the gym with way to heavy weights and i felt like giving him a shot in the head. wait till they grow up a bit more before u start to really push him. but it's great that your son is interested. i didn't get interested until 20, i only wish i had my cns more developed. take care.
