I'm pretty lean, at least for a 16 year old. I am 6 foot and about 160 pounds, mostly muscle. I'm trying to bulk up (but not to a bodybuilder) and gain definition at the same time. What are the best exersises and supplements to use and possibly cycle for the most efficient results? I know there is no miracle pill and/or workout routine but I feel like i am leaving something out...suggestions are encouraged.

I know I didn't mention this earlier, but most of the gains I want to make are for upper body. I want to keep my lean legs and obviously lean abs. I am looking to bulk up my arms and chest and make them cut asap.

Get the f**k out of here if you're going to make coments like your last one. This shows pure ignorance for the ways of the gym. I understand you're young, but now is the time to dedicate yourself and learn this game. If you don't want to step into the squat rack then you don't deserve advice. Never should "beach workout" advice be handed out here or anywhere for that matter. It's the pussy way around hard work. You can't just work upper body. Nobody will have repect for you or your physique. You MUST work everything. Even if this involves great pain. At you age you should foccus soley on heavy compound movements. Bench, deads, squats, barbell row, barbell curl, and shoulder press. Get off the ab crunching machine of the week and get in the squat rack. Working legs does not make them any less lean...it builds lean mass in them. Your asap comment shows your impatience in a skill that requires a substantive amount of patience. If you want to grow you have to eat...which means you have to sacrifice some cuts. Suck it up and deal with it. You have to want to make gains throughout your ENITIRE body. You have to work the body as a whole...this includes the mind. Educate yourself on the ways of the gym. Nutriton and training wise. Get dedicated or get out. You can't do chest, bi's, and abs every workout and expect the results you want. I recomend you re-evaluate your goals and notions on training. Your 6 foot and 160. You could use to gain some weight. Don't be afraid to. You said you feel you're leaving something out. It's called determination and intensity. All muscles must be worked with equal intensity. As far as supplementation. Just about all are ineffective. Creatine and Glutamine are proven effective. That's about it. Use creatine, glutamine, and a good multi-vitamin. Diet is the most imprtant aspect. My best suggestion would be to learn all you can. Read Flex and Muscle&Fitness. Ask questions...and please for god's sake...work legs.

Beezer that was some very good advice but at that age... You just want to have a beach body..

But hey, If you take Beezers advice you can be a monster in 5 year or sooo.. Seems like a long time but at 20 you will wish you would have listened.. You are 6' tall and 160.. man, im 6' and 260lbs.. at about 13%bf..

It takes alot of hard work..

Get too it!!

Thanks for the advice so far guys. Beezer, whoa dude, I'm sorry if I offended you. You give great advice and i appreciate it. I'm not trying to do a pussy workout, believe me. I didnt mean that I want toothpick legs, I just work them out in a different way. I am not looking for the 5-minute beach body, I am fully aware that muscle-training takes time, however some workouts are more effecient than others. I don't want a workout that moves me in circles, and because I am younger than most of the guy (not to mention at 16, I am not fully developed) More specifically than my last question, I was wondering if there is any form of a cycle in which i could alternate high reps for endurance/definition with strength/mass growth. Thanks for the advice and anyone else feel free to answer the questions here as well as at the top. I am a newbie, I admit it.

P.S. There is an ab cruncher machine? Who woulda thought? I do all my ab work machine-free, I use my bodyweight as resistance. Sometimes I'll use a 25 pound plate on the decline bench.
