you know the ones you see Paul Dillett advertising in magazines. Where they are suppose to develop your muscles based on electrical current contractions. Anyone ever tried one?

They're garbage. There is NO substitute for hard training and good nutrition.

They use them for people with spinal cord
injuries and people who are in comas to
prevent muscle wasting while their body
heals. The stuff you can purchase is junk
and doesn't work. If you do find one that
works, it's just as painful as doing the
real exercise so there's really not much
point. Plus, the current causes the muscle
to contract. What's gonna resist it? You
end up either resisting the contraction with
weights or the opposing muscle...what's the
point?

Blonski- how often / when did you use the machine for the stated results?? I have had one for a couple of years and think it would be nice to use while watching tv to firm up the abs...

It is useless to utilize electric muscle stimulation for growth. EMS (Electric Mucle Stimulation) is only utlized to decrease pain, decrease muscle spasm, pump edema, reeducate muscle through fiber recruitment and proproceptive feedback, and stimulate healing. Their was one study I read and it mentioned that there was an increase in strength gains not size when EMS was applied to a preexhasted exhausted muscle to inorder to fully contract it. The bottom line is if your muscle is preexhased and can't contract with out EMS you already waisted it and its ready to grow. I have access to these EMS units, and they are used stricltly for rehab. I have applied them on myself and it is one of the most awkward feeling you can immagine. Besides the garbage you see in the magazines don't even have enough voltage to stimulate your muscles to contract just maybe twich if that. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND WORKOUT!!!!
