I was doing a pretty heavy chest workout and felt great. Then the next day I had this sharp pain running from my shoulder joint down across the top of my bicep and it sometimes shoots all the way down over the top of my forearm to my wrist even when I'm not working out. I was doing a leg workout the next day with this dinasaur (sp?) - he is 43...anyway he said to not work that part for at least a month because it is my rotator cuff giving me the problem. He said that if I push it it will hurt like that for the rest of my life. Somebody else told me to take 660mg of Naproxen before my workouts and I won't feel it. My question is would it be best to stay off of it (ie. no bench or shoulder work) or use the Naproxen and mask the pain? I'm right in the middle of a cycle and don't won't to lay off, but I don't want to permanently hurt myself either. Any ideas?

Are you doing barbell or dumbbell bench? I blame two shoulder operations on heavy barbell bench. Also watch heavy steep inclines. Try warming your rotator up before lifting. i always use surgical tubing.

I was doing dumbell bench on the day in question but I incorporate both forms in my workouts. I usually go as heavy as possible all the time.

maybe you should limit your depth on your benches for a little while. Also, dips always put a lot of pressure on mine. you ever use hammer strength?

Actually I was doing incline dumbell bench the day before the pain started. No I don't usually do hammer strength, but I will give it a try for a while if that might alleviate some problems.

If you hold your bent arm out in front of you, then try to pull up while holding the elbow down with your other hand, does it hurt like hell or just sore? If it hurts, then your rotator is mad at you.

It is just a little sore, now. It seems that with time off the pain is slowly going away. It just hurt like a mother f***er for a few days. I haven't done any shoulder work for about a week and a half and it seems to be feeling better.
