No, you can't. Adding nitric acid (HN03) to phenol to create DNP is simple enough, but then you need to run IR or NMR spectroscopy on the solution to make sure there's virtually no phenol left over. Phenol is cheap and easy to obtain, but it's probably the most dangerous common lab substance--extremely carcinogenic, and contact with the skin causes almost immediate 3rd-degree burns. I was going to make DNP here at college using our chem department's facilities, but I couldn't figure out a way to chemically assay the purity.
