Well, I visited the doc today, and the pain in my lower abdomen is from a hernia. Words can't explain how absolutely pissed I am. I'm 22, and in the best shape of my life. This is so surreal. I don't know how I can stop lifting, but I have to, atleast for awhile. The doc said to take 2 months off of everything. I will eventually need surgery too. Lifting is so important to me. I can't go back to school. I broke up with my girl. The iron is all I have. This may sound like a sob story, but I'm just trying to vent. Damn...

You'll be back to where you were with one 8-10 week cycle...Not the end of the world.

Don't slit your wrists yet...I had a hernia eight years ago, and still lift like a madman. I have never, I repeat never had a problem since. Relax.

Dont worry at all. I got hernia number one last year. It was an umbilical hernia and real small. Surgery went fine and 30 days later I was back in the gym. Lifted for a little over a month without AS sorta. Once I thought I had recovered I started a light cycle of fina and prop. I lifted real heavy for my size and put on 12-15lbs of LBM.
Jump forward to two weeks ago and the day before my last injection of sust/prop/eq I noticed a hernia just north of my buddy. The thing is the cycle was 10ml of each sust,eq, and prop all mixed in the same vial and I took 1.5ml E3D. Which by most is a light cycle. And I only put on 10lbs and about half was LBM. And my strength was nowhere as great as the fina cycle. Anyways I am still training but I change from low reps low sets high weight to high reps high sets and light weight.
From what I have learned is to pay attention to your breathing while performing a set. I think sometimes I would hold my breath to stablize my posture and that was all the stress my body could handle.

Good luck with the surgery..

You know what it is to stick to something and be successful with it (lifting), so apply all that piss to something else that you can do while you're healing. Take two months to become a plyo expert, or work up to half-mile swims. Being good at anything physical is worthwhile.

Don't worry bro, you will be back and you know that. It sucks, but there is nothing you can do about it. You have a hernia, atleast it's not luekemia or some terrible disease that would cause you to give up training forever. Just trying to be positive, but you will be back and that is for sure.

get a second opinion, I've heard a ton of times that people are diagnosed with hernias and after a second opinion they have a strained muscle or some shit....I think I have one, but I haven't asked the doc yet.

If I get surgery to repair it, can it still come back? Or would it be a seperate all together? What exactly causes this? Is it overexertion or what?

bro, same thing happened to me last March. It was so bad, they had to put in a synthetic mesh material to repair it. So now I have this foriegn shit inside of me holding things together. Well the first 10 days sucked, I lost about 10lbs (mostly water from deydration, I coouldn't eat or drink anything and my muscles got started to get atrophy), but after about 2 weeks, I was back in the gym, doing upper body and very light weights with real high reps. Anyway, that help me stop the muscle atrophy and gain my appitie back. By the third week, I gained most of my weight back. Again it was probably waterweight (since or muscles consist of 90% water. For the next month, my routain stayed the same-light weights high reps even some leg exercises. By the 3rd month, I was back in my regular routine, except I was still cautious with the leg exersizes. After 6 months, I was pumping legs and everything full force.

Point is, you will lose weight (it will be temporary) but if you are cautious and carefull, you can be back in the gym in 2 weeks. When I look back at it, the two weeks off was kinda nice, except for the pain.

Good luck and the sooner you get it taken care of the better. If you do it now, you will be back in form by summer.

I'm still contemplating wether to do the surgery now. I have a following appointment in 2 weeks, so I'll decide then. To be honest, I'm a little nervous about going under the knife.

Bro do not worry about this hernia, I had double ingunal hernias and they put that mesh stuff in me and it wasn't long I was back at the squats to the floor. well not as heavy for a while but atleast working out steady a short time after surgery. If the doc said you have a hernia get it fixed now so you can get it behind you after you second opinion of course. Good luck bro its no big deal most of us have been through it, its part of this lifestyle called bodybuilding.

What kind of hernia is it? Indirect inguinal hernias are the most common anything that increases intraabdominal pressure will aggitate it. Direct inguianl hernias were through the fascia of the abdomen it feels like a groin pull and the pain is not as intense. If you have discomfort now get it surgically repaired before it begins to bulge. Once bulging occurs you could be dealing with cases of ischemia (impaired of oxygenation of the tissue)and surrounding soft tissue.

Oh, I've got two right now, but I haven't done anything with them. Anyway, I was down with something far worse than a hernia. Couldn't lift because it made me too sick to my stomach. I had to do something to keep from going crazy, so I started running. I think I scared people away because they saw this lumbering ape coming down the sidewalk. For six months I just ran and ran and ran like I was Forrest Gump or something. It sure kept me from having severe depression for six months, and I only lost down to 268!

lol - That gives some nice imagery. That would suck to have two - but at least you can get em dealt with at once, better than being out twice.

Hernia repair is no big deal. Had 2 done, and was doing upper body in 2 weeks. And oyu will have big balls for a few days - it was kind of nice to see the boys again, actually, cause they been MIA with gear.
Never hurts to get a second opinion, though. My son was told he needed hernia surgery. We went to a better Doc, and it turned out to be a groin pull.

I don't have time to read all these reply's and don't know if someone already said this, but...

When they repair the hernia, they will sow a piece of synthetic material (like a plastic mesh) right into your abdominal wall. The muscle will supposedly grow right into/through it and it will make the area even stronger than before. At least that is what they did with me. However, I am not sure if the mesh lasts forever, or dissolves, but my understanding was that it was in there for good.

Maybe, I was a little dramatic before, but I'm just so pissed about the whole thing. Todat, I flipped out on my brother for eating my lunch. I was doing so good too, and was all set to be looking great by the summer. I think I'm just gonna juice my brains out after all this is done.

Hey bro, just shrug it off. If you can't go back to school, get the surgery, and then take a vacation, I recommend out of the us, to do a little shopping.

good luck.
