Try an elliptical machine if the wheels are bad. If roller blading is what you want to do however, make sure your heartrate is 60-80% of you max heartrate and you can't go wrong.

hey man. i do it all the time. rollerblading is great for cardio! of course you have to be a little more careful if you do it in the morning and you feel tired... hehe. traffic can be a bitch sometimes. a heart rate monitor is great help. i keep my heartbeat in 110-130 range.

An elliptical machine is like a nordic track. They basically both simulate cross-country skiing. The track for the feet on the E machine works in a semi circular fashion. Again, low impact (if any) and great the heart or bodyfat reduction.

Rollerblading is excellent. You do have to go at it fairly hard to get the proper amount of intensity - but like you I hate running... and love rollerblading.

I don't like to do it in city traffic anymore though. It helps if you live near, or have transportation that can get you to, a paved trail (here in Toronto we have a very long waterfront trail ... excellent for blading). Nice scenery too. (Girls aplenty)

Besides stationary bikes, rollerblading is my only type of cardio I do. You have to keep up a pretty good pace. My low back comes in real nice from rollerbading, the continuious tension on it from my awkward style does wonders. When I am done, it feel to me like I have just finished doing hyper extensions.
