I've recently posted on the subject of having low testosterone. I thought that my levels had not come back to normal after a course of gear. But I have recently been diagnosed as having a varicocele on my left testicle. This abnormal blood flow to the testicles means less sperm and testosterone production. Anyone experienced this before? My last course of gear didn't give me any gains, could this be attributed to the varicocele? Can I still take gear or should I really wait till I got rid of it? Also, my doctor mentioned HCG when talking about what causes it, so beware guys. Cheers.

Is it curable? Surgery or meds? Do you have any more info. When I was 20, I got in a fight with five guys and was kicked in the nuts several times. I hurt for about a year and finaly went to the doc. He said averything was ok. By the time I was 31, I was experiencing low sex drive. Went to the doc and all he wanted to do was put me in Viagra. I got lab work and found that I was on the low end of test range. But since it was not lower than the the low, he wouldn't do anything but subcribe Viagra. I was also having a hard time keeping or gaining muscle. So after researching steroids for about a year, I started my own "hormone therapy". I wonder if I have the same complication. Posibly from the damage I got from the fight I was in. The only time I feel like I have a normal sex drive is during a cycle. ------------------

T Bone, varicocele can be caused by a blow to the nuts. It is usually on the left side, and feels like 'a bag of worms' around your testicle. It also hangs lower. Didn't your doctor examine you? It sound like what i got.

SHIT! I've got some larger veins (or whatever) on my left nut. Yes, the doc felt me up. I think I should get another opinion or ask him about this. Thanks man ------------------

There is a surgery for this condition - they actually scrape the nut.....ouch. I know a guy who had this done cause he couldn't make babys - said his nutz were like grapefruit for a few weeks, but his t-level and sperm count went way up - now has 2 kids. But it doesn't make sense to me that gear didn't work for you.

I have a varicocele on my left testicle, and it hangs lower than the right. The doctor who diagnosed me said that I may have a lower sperm count, but said nothing about low test production. It's really not that bad, it doesn't affect my sex drive. I'm not sure if my sperm count is lower.

Jesus Christ!! R u kidding me? I've had a vericosle on my left nut for years and guess a lot of guys have this. I asked my doc about this and he said that it's ok if it's on the left side but not on the right. As far as "scraping the nut"!!! my doc said it was a simple procedure where they go into your upper leg right at the crotch area and they clamp off the vein so it shrinks down. He said it was really easy and he could do it if I wanted. I've never heard of it causing low test levels or low sex drive though, this IS REALLY CONCERNING!! I'm taking propecia which kills my sex drive but maybe this vein is contributing too. Does anyone else have some scientific info on this?

Scintific info? This is the best I could do: A Varicocele develops because of defective valves that normally allow for one-way blood to flow away from the testicle to the abdomen. Testicular injury occurs due to abnormal back flow of blood from the abdomen into the scrotum and this creates a hostile environment. Numerous theories postulate how a varicocele can affect fertility. 1) testicular temperature increases due to abnormal blood flow in the veins draining the testicle and in the artery entering the scrotum. Prolonged elevated testicular temperature has detrimental effects on sperm production. 2) Abnormal concentrations of adrenal and renal substances may impede development of normal sperm. 3) Abnormal venous blood flow from the scrotum increases metabolic waste products and decreases the availability of oxygen and nutrirnts required for sperm development. 4) Abnormal blood flow can interfere with testosterone concentration, which in turn can interfere with sperm production. The long term effects of compromised circulation may interfere with normal male androgen production. If any of you guys has got a vericocele I suggest you get it sorted. My testosterone has been low for 12 months, which was the how long ago I got this vericocele. I see my doctor Wednesday and i'm gonna demand an operation pronto so I can get back into my training and start taking some gear without worrying about whats gonna happen when I come off and can't get my testosterone levels back up. Some of you guys are really hilarious. No I am not the master of the varicocele, however, I had one and had the operation to have it removed. I got mine when I was about 15, didnt receive a blow to the nuts or anythign stupid like that. About 80 - 90% are on the left side because of the nature of how veins run on that side of your body. There is an abnormality in pressure and from lifting and the abdominal pressure caused by weightlifting, it increased the size of my varicocele significantly, my left testicle was 3 times bigger than my right and it looked ridiculous, I didn't care about sperm count, or even testosterone count, however, after lifting and sex the varicocele would fill up with fluid and hurt like crazy. I had the procedure, they go in between your penis and your belly button , (someone said they go in by your crotch, that makes no sense as the veins are coming from up above (your heart). The incision is usually around 2 inches long and they tie of the veins, and in my case they removed a few segments of the vein, however, they never go into the scrotum or touch the testicle at all. Recovery from surgery sucks, its an outpatient surgery you go hoe the same day with staples in you, you were a scrotum support and basically you cannot get off your bed without help for about 3 days. 2 weeks your back on your feet. 1 month your back in the gym. And as far as testosterone count, my gains come as usual, no major improvement, just now my nuts are the same size. P.S. I wound up with a hernia on the left side 2 months ago, they went in through the same incision to make things easier, hernia surgery much morepainful. Peace, |
