I would yes they do and they don't.
They help in the way that you have back support. But they don't help in the way that if you didn't have a belt, your lower back muscles will get alot stronger as long as you don't do anything stupid. Look under my post"How many of you guys wear belts" There is alot of info there also.

True, and belts are mainly for the "guidance" for proper form, not to be "relied" upon for proper form.

I had never used one before, but my chiropractor happens to work out at the same gym I do and I saw him wearing one.

Opinions differ, even between chiropractors.

Weight belts serve one purpose and its not to help your lower back. They provide resistance for your abs under which are under intense amounts of pressure while uncer a heavy squat or deadlift.
When those "ABADABERS", Kill that Body by Jake Guy, are encountering resistance your in effect strengthening your truck, your base.

Twisted has it. It allows your abdomin to "stabalize" your mid section by giving you something to push against as your straining. I personally don't use one, but that my choice. I don't feel safer with one on and it actually hurts when I do squats(my stomach that is).
