Was the 1980 Mr. O rigged? I didn't know any thing about it, until recently. I read some thing but it didn't really tell me what the story was. Does anyone know?

Frank Zane didn't win the 80' Olympia, Arnold did, and yes there was a big controversy between him and Metzer. Alot of people say that the contest was rigged by Weider. I still think that Arnold had the best physique of all time, even if Metzer was in better shape.

It's like this, Arnold retired in 1975. He went on his merry way, and mentezer and all his cronies started talking smack on Arnold's high volume approach to training. Arnold decided it was time to return and shut him up. However he had to get into shape in half the time that it normally took him. So obviously he wasn't in his best condition. But I don't care how shitty Arnold looked, and how good mentzer appeared. Arnold is the Mecca of bodybuilding and there is no way he could loose. If he lost it would be horrible. He was the immortal, never to be dethroned. If he lost his fans would not sleep, miss work/school, commit suicide and live miserable lives.

By the way, frank zane should never have won the olympia. He is a fucking twig, and a joke to bodybuilding.

Besides 80, name one that was. Who do you think is capable of beating ronnie, or dorian, or lee haney, gimme a break. The placing may be fucked up sometimes but the winner is almost always the best.

Blonde I can give you one - '72 Essen is still talked about as the worst decision of all of them. Many thought Oliva had Arnold. Oliva said in an interview that Arnold even admitted he shouldn't have won it. (I find this hard to believe from someone as cocky as Arnold but in 72 he was still young so who knows, maybe some humility was left in him)

I just think it was too close between them. And anytime it's close Weider's guy wins. Look at all Weider's guys -

Arnold (beat Oliva who had superior tri's back and legs)
Zane (beat Mentzer, no way this could happen - symmetry but no mass)
Haney (no arms or calves)
Yates (huge, but the worst proportion and symmetry of any Olympia. Cow belly and no arms)

Weider's the Bill Gates of bb. You think someone endorsing his products is gonna lose to an outsider like Oliva or Mentzer?

It's true, everything is run around the all mighty buck. Since Weider runs just about everything in the bodybuilding world (or a least he was) he primarily got to decide the winner. However, I do think Arnold had the best genetics of any body builder past and present. He had great symmetry, proportion and attitude all needed to be a winner, and Weider saw that and capitalized on it.
