I gotta vent this one. My fuckin gym plays this shit music all the time and it sucks for working out. Its pre recorded on a tape or something because everyday it's THE SAME SHITTY songs - Britney Spears, Aguillerra, Witney Houston, Will Smith. These ain't test boosting lifting songs. WHAT THE FUCK! And it Gold's for Christ's sake. I would expect that from LA Fitness or Bally's. But even Bally's played a fuckin rock radio station. Now everyone has their fave music, but you have to admit hard classic rock and metal has some high energy shit that is really made for lifting - WHO, Stones, Metallica, Doors, Ozzy, Zepplin, all that shit. Fuck, now I find myself praying for the Whitney Houston song to come on because its the only fast track on this fucked up pre mix. That's pretty fuckin sad. I hate wearing walkmans because I don't like any obstructions when lifting, but it looks like that's the only choice.

Personally I don't care any more. I need good music when I do cardio though. Personally I like house music and all that techno stuff, anything w/ a fast pace. I was reading an article (I forget the source) a while back, and the author was saying that when listening to that kind of music (rave)and classical music (???)is the best when working out. I forget the scientific explaination but I buy it cause I always get a good pump w/ that music, and the way he was expalining it made sense. Sorry I can't provide more evidence but as I said it works for me. IP: Logged |

I think it's universal, spoonman. Today at the gym they were playing Judy Collins! I mean, it's possible to tune out "Send in the Clowns" during squats, but it still sucks. I asked them if I could bring my Metallica or Erasure CDs next time. No dice. They'll probably be playing the theme from "Titanic" next time. Shit. And my gym is a pretty hard core place, too. I can't figure it out, except that the babe at the front desk just likes, well, a certain kind of music... IP: Logged |

That's funny man. Yeah I'm in a midsize southern city for a few months and have to train to some inbred singing about how heartbroken he is that his sister broke up with him. It sucks. The best training music I came across was in a gym in FL, the owner took all the vocals out of some rap music. It was just the beat. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I used to work out in a place called "Defined Fitness" here and they played nothing but shit. Finally me and my workout partner asked them to change it. They said they would and the next morning it was on 94 rock. Best workouts ever. I suggest asking them if you can bring in a tape you put together and see how that works. My favorite to workout to? Prodigy, Prong, Pantera, Metallica, and if you want to do slow slow sets put on Type O Negative. Platinum ------------------ IP: Logged |

I sometimes go the walkman route. I check what video cd is on, and if it is all alternative or top 40 pop crap, I grab my headphones, it gets in the way, but stuff it, I want to get into my own zone. ------------------ IP: Logged |

... ive got the same thing at my gym too... club dance music sound like one big long friggin monotonus drone to me.... occasionally they put on the metal channel Metallica, biohazard, type o, all the stuff i usually listen to on my head phones. I always go up and thank the person at the desk for playing it and that they should do it more often. Its gotten me alot further than bitching about how bas the other stuff is... yea its a weak post but I havent had my ECA yet VK IP: Logged |

here's the absolute worst. . i keep hearing music over and over at the gym (like b. spears) and then on the way to work everyday (which takes an hour each way) i catch myself listening to that crap and sometimes even singing along. what's up with that? it's probable funny as hell to see your boss singing to himself "hit me baby one more time" although, some of these little teeny-boppers are hot little pieces of jail bait. opps, did i say that? Damn E2, sounds like you're gonna have a badass gym. That's the way it should be! If I lived nearby I would gladly drop my membership at Gold's for a real gym. But yeah, they play some funky ass music sometimes.. that's what headphones are for though. IP: Logged |

Ya, same shit at my gym. They always play one of those MTV party to go CD's or some crap with Cher, Ricki Martin, and the Backstreet Boys on it. And they'll put the damn thing on repeat! I finally got to the point where I got so pissed of, now just about everytime I go to the gym, I go to the front desk and ask them to put it on my favorite station. I figure if I do this enough, they'll just start changing it everytime I come in the door. ------------------ IP: Logged |

If the bulk of cd/tape players get in your way, try a mp3 portable player(The Nomad). Theyre pricy but damn small. You can even download music from the net for FREE. If it steams you that bad, one might be the perfect investment. My 2 cents. IP: Logged |
