![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() no real remedies, just try stretching, it is the nerves being pinched that causes the pain IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() sit on the floor with you legs extended out..point your toes toward your face so that your tibialis(shin muscle) feels flexed...ice them for about 15 minutes..a couple of times a day. Your "shin splints" are because your tibialis is inflamed and are rubbing on your tibia bone. Aspirin can help. PS..never listen to someone who says to heat them..you NEVER flame inFLAMation IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() good advise, I would add this; stretch your calves in a serious manner! exercise your extensor muscles every other day. you can place a DB on the top of your foot and curl your toes toward yoru self. also, when you are just sitting in class or whatever bring your toes up and contract you extensors hard for as many reps as you can. force alot of blood flow through the area. you'll be surprises how pumped you can get from doing these! ICE ICE ICE ICE!!! can't say it enough! wrap those ice bags on there tight as hell too. And don't ice right before exercising. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() shin splints are a real pain in the ass, trust me I get them like nobodies business. Usually start about August and I have to take enought anti inflams to burn a hole through a 6inch piece of metal every day for the next 4 months to just be able to walk. The best thing I have found over the years is a combination of anti inflamatories, Arthrotec 75 3x a day and ice twice a day. I'm not taling about putting ice bags on your shins, you have to fill a knee deep bucket about 3/4 with ice - crushed ice works better, and then fill it with water so you have a slushy, then stick both legs into it for 8 - 10 min. The first couple of times it will hurt like a bitch but you have to keep you legs in there, it will get better rocko ------------------ IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Try ice massage. Take dixie cups and fill them up with water then freeze 'em. Now tear the paper down and massage the entire hurt areas untill all the ice melts. Do this before and after you work out. Also, have you ever had custom insoles? I got 'em and I haven't had splits since. And take Advil. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I hold a dumbell between my feet while I do heavy chins. At the top of the contraction, I do two quick reps of pulling my feet up, then back down. I used to get shin splints, since I started doing these, no problems. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() All good info. I used to get them too...still do sometimes. 1.Rest (ease up on the running, especially on roads. Switch to the tread mill for awhile) 2. ICE,ICE,ICE...Like Rocko said, knee deep in buckets of ice & water. 3. Stretch out your calves good. Also, if there is someone to help you, have them pull your foot down and away from you. This helps stretch out your "shins". Running on hard surfaces and calves that overpower your shins are the main culprits for shin splits. Good luck. I know how bad they suck. Mine actually got so bad at one point they started to turn into stress fractures. Had to just stop running and give them time to heal. IP: Logged |
