If you use email like excite, yahoo, hotmail, ect. Sending an email is just like sending a post-card, anyone (who knows how) can read it. Hushmail.com encrypts emails to other hushmail users. No need to even give your name. Try it out!

If a human makes it, a human can break it. Hushmail is the best thing out there but think about it, it can still be broken into, with the right software/hardware. Do not lull yourself into a false sense of security. Trust no one. Oh and by the way I do have a hushmail account. Platinum IP: Logged |

I agree, for the moment hushmail seems to be the most secure. that is until something new comes along or we find out that we have all been had and the man is the one responsible for establishing hushmail just to gather intel. wow! maybe I am being paranoid. be smart, live long, and get pumped not punked!! If you really want to get some tough encryption software you can get a download from some of the sites that distibute a package called PGP(Pretty Good Privacy)MIT has a site offering copies for free, it's tough even for the feds to break it. Good program, get it for free.Just do a search under the key word "PGP"..lol IP: Logged |

I agree with Rich1. Any software with 128 bit encryption is a no go for anyone! The gov't was trying to outlaw it because they'd never be able to crack it. With today's technology, it would take all the computers in the world 4 times the age of the universe to crack a 128 bit encrypted file...no shit! Go with something like PGP if you're really paranoid. And the Matrix is real man! Its real! Pubert IP: Logged |

I have a couple of good friend who work for the FBI and there is no way they can keep track of this thing we call the internet. Those they really want to catch are the child pornographers, and even that is a huge task. However, drawing unecessary attention to yourself will not help. For the most part, I think we're ok. But, this board in general may become a target some day. IP: Logged |

If you're really worried about complete privacy, there is only one program out there that I know of that can give it to you. It's called freedom 1.1 from zeroKnowledge systems. 1. It encrypts your email before it leaves your computer. Your message then travels on Freedom's own network to it's destination, bouncing your email from Freedom server to Freedom server (each server then strips off the old headers and adds it's own) where it is decrypted on the recipient's computer. (both must be using freedom) 2. You will create your own psuedonyms (fake names) for your emails and the freedom network doesn't even know who you are. So, in essence if The Gestapo wanted Freedom to give you up it would be nearly impossible. 3. When you are surfing the net you have the option to surf over freedom's network where your browser requests are bounced from one server to the next(just like your emails)preventing the receiving server from knowing where you really came from.:-) It's pretty damned ingenius in my humble opinion. Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you. You can find out more infoHERE Just thought I'd weigh in on this since alot of you are concerned. I've heard a lot about hushmail yet when I went to use it, it says that it doesn't work well with IE. Better with Netscape? It was constantly giving me problems and was more trouble than it was worth. Can anyone tell me if it is any better for me to give it a second look? ------------------ IP: Logged |

Chances are if someone was going to try and bust you, it would be the very person your sending the email to, not someone just "goin fishing" and scanning emails at random. I mean, encrytion is good and all for stoping people from viewing it in transit, but most of the time the person that would be responsible for nailing you would be the reciever of the email. http://www.anonymizer.com lets you to send mail annonymously for free but you gotta subscribe for the really good stuff ------------------ IP: Logged |

PGP is also a good alternative to Hushmail; but it is a little bit harder to deal with. There is also Anon mail, but I can't remember the name offhand. In the meantime, EVERYONE GET HUSHMAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IP: Logged |

It doesn't matter if the message is encrypted or not all they have to do is decrypt it if they want to. Having an encrypted mail message makes it more private but it also makes it makes them more interested in finding out what is being said. No email is safe for the simple fact that everyone e-mails from and specific IP address and that IP address is in your message preference. I can tell you the safest way to send any messages is through ICQ - fake account in a fake name and you can tell it to hide you IP address on istalling a new user to ICQ. I'm a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and I own an Internet Advertising company which deals solely on e-mail so if you would like more info on this matter you can e-mail me IP: Logged |
