My heart has pounded for years, I can actually see it beat in my chest sometimes. You are most likely just feeling it because your starting to relax and don't have daily distractions at bed time. Check your pulse rate right after you lay down, and then about twenty minutes later after laying down. See what the differnce is. Shouldn't be to much, should be slower though. Also, check your blood pressure. Make sure it is in the normal range. If you are still concerned go to the doc and get a physical.

I think you just need to chill out bro. Its all in your head. You said it yourself, you feel fine right up until bedtime. Thats when your blood pressure and heartrate should be at their lowest all day, or at least comin' down. You're probably just busy all day, and don't even think about it, but when you lay down to sleep and start thinkin' about it...next thing you know, you're freakin'. Can't sleep when you're freakin'!

yeah, same thing here. it doesn't race just
skips a beat every once in a while, maybe we
can feel it more because of increased blood pressure but that's just a guess.
