how accurate are these scales for computing body fat. I tried one and my body fat seem to come in higher than I anticipated. Does anyone know what the margin of error is on these scales. IP: Logged |

One thing that they "forget" to mention is that you must have a completely empty stomach when you weigh yourself. It measures fat by resistance. With a shitload of food in your stomach you will measure very high. Get yourself some calipers, and READ the manual. (not a flame) SDW IP: Logged |

I had one that was specifically for atheletes and cost around $145 and it had a disclaimer that said it wasn't as effective on bodybuilders or professional athletes. By no means am I either one, but I definitely don't have a normal build either. I think they're fine for just everyday average people, but not for the rest of us. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I have one and it can vary by 5%bf if you wet your hair. Electric impedence is a shitty way to measure bodyfat if you ask me. I can lose 5 pounds and the damn thing will say my bodyfat went up. Don't waste your money IP: Logged |

I've got one and I'm satisfied with it. You got remember though that if you get one it has to be a model for atheletes or else it will be way off. In the morning it reads that I'm 13% in the evening it show that I'm 11%. I've had calipers done and they say I'm 12%. IP: Logged |

the varying readings for the bodyfat percentage probably has a few causes, but if you are retaining more water than normal the reading will be higher. Less water you are retaining the lower it will be. IP: Logged |

The bodyfat scales "Tanita" use an electrical impedance which only travels through the lower body...... the readings will be affected by almost anything, if you own one you have to get an avg. by doing it the same time everyday.... They are off, but u never know how much, but they do show the "difference" between individuals with consistency...... I bought one and only use it to weigh myself, dont like looking at those high BF #'s !! IP: Logged |

the only real use for these machines is mesures progress if your on a diet and it tells you on week one youre say 32%fat, and on week 8 youre 25%fat you wil see progress, it is important to see if somethings working and the one I have one that says im 20%fat while im really about 10%, but anyway whenever im in doubt i take my good old calipers. It has already been mentioned but the best thing is to take these measurements in the morning on an empty stomach after going to the bathroom. IP: Logged |
