![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I read in Arnold's "Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding" that numerous top-flight bodybuilders in the 70's (I think he actually mentions Danny Padilla) used to smoke and drink hard-tack before going on stage. He goes on to say that he strongly urges everyone to stay away from it. Did bodybuilders of the day feel that they improve your pump or kill the nerves when competing in front of a large crowd? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() These practices were based on theories. Cigarettes are a mild diuretic. It MAY help you keep your water down. Smokers, when they quite, usually gain 5-15 pounds. Some of this is probably water. Alcohol will dehydrate you. This MAY help you look more "dry." The cost benefit ratio of these theories probably make them inconsequential. The thing to remember here is that knowledge today about different drugs and supplements is far far greater than it was in yesteryear. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mud, I believe the alcohol was used before going on stage mainly due to it being a mild vasco-dialator. It would make your veins more noticable. Notice when you drink one or two beers you start to feel pumped..... IP: Logged |
