Damn man! 600lb bench under 200lbs bodyweight? I have been slightly interested in powerlifting for a while.. maybe you read my other post or maybe not.. but until last week I was weighing in at a scrawny 128 lbs with a bench press of 255 and am 18 yrs old. At that point I stopped making any real gains... it was like I hit a wall.. ever since I started lifitng I would add 5 lbs to my bench at least every month.. then all of a sudden around 240 or so my gains came very very slowly.

Maybe after I get off cycle I'll get back into it do you have any special advice on how to get the lifts to keep going up? Or maybe a book or website you could recommend? thanks in advance.

AndroMan

It is natural for gains to slow down. You haven't topped out or anything - shit, you're only 18.

Try this for a year:

Bench, Squat, Deadlift, EAT EAT EAT

Gains guaranteed

Matt

Well, I know that will help. What I'm saying is I may have already gotten off to a good start in powerlifting -- since I'm so scrawny. How to keep adding to the lifts _without_ putting on more weight.

IF ALL YOUR INTERESTED IN IS INCREASING
YOUR BENCH,CUT DOWN ON YOUR REPS.
DO FOUR SETS OF 4,3,2 ON ONE WEEK
AND THE NEXT WEEK DO NEGATIVES.

YES, 12 REPS TOTAL. NEXT WEEK DO HEAVY
NEGATIVES. CUT WAY DOWN ON THE TOTAL NUMBER
OF SETS AND REPS YOU DO. YOU WON'T GET
ANY SIZE, BUT YOU'RE STRENGTH LEVEL WILL
GO UP. DO THIS FOR 8 WEEKS THEN GO BACK
TO YOUR NORMAL TRAINING.

have you ever heard of bands of chains, putting 25lb chains on each side then doind reps whether it be on the bench or squat... the same with bands,,, this will help with stregnth and getting past those sticking points

5 sets x 5 is always good. then maybe 2 x 3. go heavy on incline, weighted dips help bench a lot, start working your rotator cuff as much as possible.

negative are VERY helpfull!!!!!

Read magazine Powerlifting USA - its good!

sounds like you might have a good shot - thats a strong bench at 128!!!
