![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Columbo mid 400's. Eddie Robinson high 500's at 220. Me (world champion powerlifter bench press specialist) 600+ at under 200lbs. Bodybuilders cannot and will not bench heavy. Anyone have proof otherwise? IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I still love powerlifting to this day. I started lifting with powerlifters and obviously they could always bench more than the bodybuilders. I think most bodybuilders are to leary of injury from low rep extreemly heavy sets, although I still through in some low rep, high weight sets every once and a while. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() When did bench pressing become a powerlift? If it ain't a clean or snatch, then it ain't a powerlift! I must say that a bench press over 400 is pretty damn impressive! IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() No KingDbol, my initials are not D.W. GRIP, if you are reading this, did you bench 600 for reps or just one? Anyhow, did you use any anabolics? Thanks! IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() re: bodybuilder dont bench heavy didnt yates bench heavy?? he supposedly could handle 440 to 460 for 6 to 8 reps. i have a frined who trained at haneys gym in the late 80s who told me he saw him put up 435 for 7 good reps. what about cormier, who is supposed to have some freaky strength?? i am curious to know if anybody has seen or heard of the top pros using the big weights?? magazines cant be trusted, but still wondering IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Grip I have to take that on. Me, mid 500 at 250lbs. 455 for 8 clean reps. I also witnessed Chris Cormier do 500+ at 250lbs+. BB have gone heavy to get a lot of their size and many are very strong. But, stregth gets to a point of diminishing returns. Then you have to find other ways to grow, ie many Pros. I have lived in Venice CA. and during the off season I've seen many Pros go heavy. Another common myth, "BB are big but, not strong". IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Wow.... I remember a quote from the Arnold S. bible... "since i have long arms, its tough for me to put up 400lbs more than 8 times." well... since i have short arms.. its tough for me to imagine anything near that for one time ! ha ha ha ------------------ IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Sorry ahthong, I meant to ask that question to Grip. This is because the only man I know who hit a 600+ bench press at the 198 pound weight class in a powerlifting federation and holds a record is no other than the great Dave Waterman. He hit a 628 bench at 198 pounds. I could be wrong, but thats what i read in Powerlifting USA. Sorry. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Grip, I have to disagree. BB's will lift heavy because there are advanges from it. Aside from the strenth, it will give your muscles that hard look that repping a less than max weight just can't do. Columbu used to say he can just look at a BB and tell he didn't lift heavy because his muscles would have that "soft" look. Consequently he and Arnold firmly believed in the old training technique of doing heavy and light days. I followed this split and my strength skyrocketed. But as for the hardness argument, I have noticed this personally. My arms are my strongest parts and I frequently lift them very heavy. And they are really hard looking for it, even unflexed and this was pre-juice. (as opposed to my legs will look soft because knees prevent heavy squating) spoon IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() BTW, Jared's right. Perfect example. Cormier has extrememly strong tri's. I saw him do overhead ext's with some freaky weight and just look at how hard his tri's look. sp IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This should be renamed the B.S. board...... what difference does it make how much someone can bench, I've seen some big benchers with very unimpessive pec's, if you are a BB, form and reps are the two most important things and weight has to be enough to stimulate growth. I consider myself a moderatly heavy bencher in the 400 Lbs range(for reps) but i have a 56" chest to back that up at a weight of 268 Lbs and 12% bfp. If you have any kind of genetics and follow the advice from some of the more knowledgable BB on this board you will go a long way. You can never learn enough !! IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Well Sh*t Huge&Co. If this is the B.S. board. Put your money where your mouth is. Let's see this 268lbs of 12% BF, 56" hav'in chest monster. That would make you a pretty large and lean Mofo. Or is that, how you put it? B.S. If your going to post #s like that I and others would love to see it. Because, I believe muscle thickness and extreme hardness comes from heavy weights, not moderate weights. [This message has been edited by cjac1 (edited April 01, 2000).] IP: Logged |
