I was planning on taking a trip down to rosarito and possibly to ensenada for "spring break".I was wondering if anyone who has driven into Mexico has been fucked with by the Federales for driving a pretty nice car into mexico and also if they had any problems with people trying to steal it or vandalize there cars or even try to crash into them, didn't plan on staying in mexico overnight just for a day trip and maybe party at night then go through customs, do customs care what kind of car you drive for searching people and or will it attract unnessesary attention IP: Logged |

I have driven in Baja many times all the way to Cabo & back. If the Federales stop you for anything they will be looking for a mordida. Which basically is a payoff, be sure to negotiate if you can. Dont forget to get some Mexican insurance (you can buy this by the day just before you cross the boarder). As far as someone hitting your car, I doubt that would happen but you never know. It's not Mexican customs you have to worry about as far as a search its the US & yes they may very well search the shit out of your car so if your bringing gear back hide it really well. IP: Logged |

Since Nafta and Gatt were passed they don't search evry single vehicle unless somethin looks funny. Oftentimes they'll search lets say evry tenth vehicle or somethin like that IP: Logged |

I just got back from that same trip last week. I went to ensenada and stayed the night. I would not worry about the federales as much as the US border patrol. Also try to take a girl with you, it will not make you look suspicious. The best farmacy in ensenada is the New York farmacia. There is a guy in there about mid twenties with a goatee who can get anything you need. IP: Logged |

YOUR U.S INSURANCE IS VALID FOR A SHORT DISTANCE INTO MEX. CHECK WITH BORDER PATROL, I BELIEVE IT'S 20 MILES. IP: Logged |

I've been there several times and only been fucked with once. I ran a stop sign in Rosirito and got pulled over by one of those 1972 beatup pickup trucks. He wanted $50 or I could go to Jail I gave him $40 they were happy and went on trucking. One note when you pay for the toll road insurance is inlcuded in the toll. If you get into a wreck and trash a mile marker or something show them your receipt from the toll and you don't have to pay for it. The insurance is only for the toll road walls etc... When you enter Rosirito on the left hand side is a little white building with big red checkers on the side it looks like a big bag of dog food. This vet had several shelves of roids to pick from. As for driving back, I try to get behind a van. They pull over more vans than any other car and they most often never send two cars in a row. L8R IP: Logged |

Hide your money in your sock and only keep about thirty in your pockets. When the federales stop you (and they do alot around busy holidays- twice last year in rosarito for college fest in june) the thirty is usually enough to get you on your way. If they see you with a few hundred in cash your going to be given alot more problems. IP: Logged |

No matter what, buy the mexican insurance if your going as far as Rosarito. The toll booth insurance wont be enough if you have an accident. IP: Logged |

The toll booth insurance is only for the road , not your car or anyone else's car. I read a webpage from a guy that lost control of his car on the tollroad and they tried to rack up the bill for the road. He called a lawer and found out about the insurance. When he showed the receipt they let him go. He never got his car back, but he got home. L8R IP: Logged |
