It was several years ago when Jelfa started its capital expenditure process in order to satisfy the requirements of World Health Organisation (WHO), set forth in the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). At present, the works related to achieving those standards at the production departments are completed in a large degree. Since 1998, pharmaceutical production in Poland has to comply with the regulations issued by the Polish Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspector.
The Company incurred high costs of adjustment to the world-wide standards that obliged its authorities to allocate all the profits to such investments. To effectively face the challenges of the domestic and foreign pharmaceutical markets, for a number of years Jelfa has consistently implemented its Quality Policy that is briefly called "From the Concession to GMP Certificate". The calendar of effects of those efforts is presented below:

1997 - the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare grants the Concession for manufacturing of all the pharmaceuticals included in the Company's production;
1998 - the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspector issues the GMP Certificate for the Ointment Department;
1999 - the Ministry of Health grants the Good Manufacturing Practice and Quality Assurance Certificate for the Ampoule Department;
at the turn of 2000 and 2001 - planned receiving of the GMP Certificate for the Tablets Department concerning the dry forms there fabricated.
The obtained certifications increase the Company's chances for effective competing in the market; moreover, they may facilitate the registration processes abroad and eventually result in gaining new customers for our products.

As Jelfa implemented the programme of adjusting its production conditions to the world-wide standards, it made huge modernisation investments but also built a completely new ointment department which is now the largest and most modern facility of that kind all over Europe.
Stated at current prices, the total investment outlays reached almost PLN 225 million over the period from 1993 to 1999.
Since the end of 1997, the Company's pharmaceutical production conditions have complied with the requirements of the Polish Ministry of Health and Social Welfare; that enabled expansion in the market and selling drugs all over the world. It is highly probable, that having achieved the entire GMP conformance, Jelfa will take over some portion of the domestic market that is going to be vacated by smaller pharmaceutical firms which fail to satisfy the said standards. Thanks to all the undertaken investments, Jelfa has now become one of the most modern Polish pharmaceutical plants.
