This is a little off topic, but I would really appreciate any help. My father has a broken vertebrate, and three broken ribs. He has been diagnosed with severe osteoporosis due to overuse of prednisone, we think, and he just recently broke another rib tonight by just touching it. His doctor has him on some testosterone cream, 10mg/day, and is contemplating giving him some hGH. He has been in remission from colon cancer for over one year now, and his doctor is a little hesitant to use the hGH, because of his cancer history. What should I recockommend for my dad to take, I know he needs to increase his testosterone, but should he add the GH, or will that make the cancer metastasize? Personally, I don't have a lot of experience with GH, so I would really appreciate some advice on this...he is in a lot of pain, and he is trying to stay away from pain meds as long as he can. Thank you,

I would suggest your dad see an endocrinologist. From what I understand most other doctors know little about the affects of AS.

First of all, get a 2nd and 3rd opinion from other doctors. My second advice is for you to only listen to your doctor's recommendations. We're bodybuilders, we're not trained to save lives. My last advice, is to find someone on the medical newsgroup that are in the same situation as your dad. You'll find a lot more options from people who have gone through this. Goodluck.

I think your father should see an orthopedic/oncologist who specializes in the spine. You can contact the American Academy of Orthpedic Surgeons, in Rosemount, Ill. for a credible reference in your area. The AAOS also has a web-site. Also Dr. Earl Brien of Los Angeles is an excellent orthopedic/oncologist and could maybe refer you to someone in your area. You and your family will be in our prayers.

Thanks for everything guys. We're going to get a couple more opinions from some oncologists before we decide to use the GH or not. Two oncologists believe if the GH is used at a minimal dose he shouldn't have a problem, that's my thought too, but I want a little more scientific proof before we make a decision. Anyone know where I could find some literature on GH and cancer succeptibility?

Have you tried using any of the alternatives medicines? I don't mean stuff like acupuncture but using a treatment that is still being tested but not totally approved? I was used as a "guinea pig" by a university hospital to help with my condition and it worked on some people and didn;t make a difference in others. Maybe your dad will be one of the lucky ones.
